Final Fantasy 16 is currently being review bombed, with its overall user score sitting at 6.8 compared to its 88 critic score. Final Fantasy 16 has earned rave reviews from critics so far, with many hailing it as one of the best main series FF games to date. However, there is some controversy surrounding the game, mainly pertaining to the fact that it's a PlayStation 5 exclusive release.

Even though Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 15 released on Xbox the same day that the games came to PlayStation, Final Fantasy 16 is a PS5 exclusive for at least six months. No plans for an Xbox port of Final Fantasy 16 have been announced at the time of this writing, but Square Enix does have a PC port of the critically-acclaimed game on the way that will potentially arrive at some point in 2024.

It seems Final Fantasy 16's PS5 exclusivity is the main reason why people are bombarding it with 0/10 user reviews on Metacritic, with some going as far as to claim that there's some kind of conspiracy by the gaming media to give it high review scores simply because it's a PS5 exclusive. A couple of the accounts that left a 0/10 score for Final Fantasy 16 on Metacritic gave ill-fated Xbox console exclusive Redfall a 10/10, which is more evidence supporting that particular theory. It will be interesting to see if the score continues to drop or if enough Final Fantasy fans rally back with positive reviews to drive it back up.

Final Fantasy 16 Reviews

That's not to say that every negative Final Fantasy 16 review is the result of people being upset about the game being a PS5 exclusive. There are some negative reviews who aren't happy about Final Fantasy 16's action-oriented combat system, wishing that the franchise would have stuck to its turn-based roots. Others aren't happy with the pacing of the story or aren't impressed with some of the side content.

Regardless, professional Final Fantasy 16 reviews have been almost entirely positive, with many hailing it as yet another potential Game of the Year contender alongside games like Street Fighter 6 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Final Fantasy 16 reviews have praised the game's cutting-edge graphics, exciting battles, and gripping story. It seems nearly every big game release nowadays finds itself the target of a review bombing campaign, and it's unlikely that this will have much of an impact on Final Fantasy 16 in the long rung.

Final Fantasy 16 is out now for PS5.
