On January 27, Final Fantasy 14 launched its first content update of 2026, with Patch 7.41 introducing new updates to Cosmic Exploration and Phantom Weapons, two of Dawntrail’s main features. The new Final Fantasy 14 patch arrived after a five-hour maintenance period, and also brought some surprising Job balance changes for players to bear in mind.

Final Fantasy 14’s latest update came over a month after the launch of Patch 7.4, Into the Mist. Along with the new main story quests, Patch 7.4 added the third and final tier of the Arcadion raid series. The Heavyweight tier was released in two parts, with normal mode arriving in mid-December and Savage mode launching on January 6. However, Final Fantasy 14’s latest Savage raid tier was marred by distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on the game’s North American data centers, which negatively affected gameplay. The attacks have been largely mitigated since January 7.

Final Fantasy 14’s 7.41 Brings New Endgame Content

Following the additions and changes made in the previous Final Fantasy 14 update, Square Enix added some more content to the Phantom Weapon and Cosmic Exploration features for high-level players to enjoy. The next part of the Phantom Weapon series spans three quests, starting by accepting the new quest “Timeworn Techniques” from Lydirceil in the Phantom Village. The village can be accessed from Tuliyollal after starting the Phantom Weapon quest chain introduced in Patch 7.25.

For Final Fantasy 14’s crafters and gatherers, a new planet is available to explore as part of the Cosmic Exploration initiative. By starting the quest “Mission of Gravity” in Phaenna, players will join Searchingway and the loporrits on an expedition to Oizys, a planet with ancient ruins and strange gravitational fields to navigate. Like previous iterations of Cosmic Exploration, players on the same server must work together to uncover all that Oizys has to offer, with various parts of the planet and new objectives unlocking over time.

However, Patch 7.41 also gave FF14’s iteration of the Final Fantasy series’ iconic Summoner Job some surprising buffs. Following the changes made to the Red Mage in Patch 7.4, the Summoner saw less use in high-end raid content. In Patch 7.41, the Summoner’s burst damage received some buffs via adjustments to Sunflare and Searing Flash, which should give Summoner some parity with Red Mage. No other Job adjustments were made in FF14’s latest content update.

Patch 7.41 is a Timely Update for Returning Final Fantasy 14 Players

The 7.41 content patch comes during the latter half of an ongoing promotion. The Free Login Campaign in Final Fantasy 14 lasts until February 9, which gives players with a lapsed subscription an opportunity to return to the game at no additional cost. While the campaign is active, players who log back into FF14 will receive 96 free hours of playtime, though the clock will continue to count down even when players are logged out of the game. With the next chapter of the ongoing Cosmic Exploration and the Phantom Weapon quest chains now available, players with access to Dawntrail can experience them during the login campaign. Of course, further participation will require Final Fantasy 14 players to restart any inactive subscriptions.

The next Final Fantasy 14 content update, Patch 7.45, is expected to arrive over the coming weeks. Patch 7.45 will add the next chapter of Hildibrand’s Dawntrail adventures, along with a new Variant Dungeon called The Merchant’s Tale. In the spring of 2026, Final Fantasy 14 will also launch Patch 7.5, which will bridge the gap between Dawntrail and FF14’s currently-untitled next expansion. Even though Dawntrail still has more content waiting to be released, it remains to be seen how Square Enix will go about its release cadence knowing that FF14’s next expansion is waiting in the wings.

Enhancing Phantom Weapons

  • Upon completing the quest "A Phantom Reborn," players will receive one enhanced phantom weapon based on the job with which they progressed through the quest. In the preceding quest, "In Pursuit of Perfection," players will receive a phantom glass which can be used to confirm progress during that stage of the enhancement process.

Enhancing Additional Phantom Weapons

  • After completing the quest "A Phantom Reborn," players may exchange Waning Arcanite with Dodokkuli in the phantom village (X:6.7 Y:7.1) to enhance additional phantom weapons. Waning Arcanite may be obtained by trading Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics.

Class/Job-specific Quests

  • Phantom weapon quests employ a system which will require players to proceed using the same class or job with which they accepted the quest.

Frontline

  • During Worqor Chirteh (Triumph) campaigns, triumphs will now appear more frequently near the center of the map.

    • Robust: Reduces loss of durability by 50% and guarantees Sturdy material condition for the next step.

Cosmic Exploration (Oizys)

Requirements

  • Upon unlocking Oizys, players may travel to the star using the Bestways Burrow aetheryte and speaking with Drivingway in Mare Lamentorum (X:21.9 Y:13.2). Travel to the star is also possible by speaking with Cruisingway at Sinus Ardorum (X:20.6 Y:19.5) or Phaenna (X:27.0 Y:13.9) and selecting Oizys as the destination.
  • Players who did not participate in the development of Sinus Ardorum or Phaenna may still participate in the development of Oizys by progressing through cosmic exploration quests.

Oizys Credits

  • Players earn Oizys credits by participating in stellar missions and projects on Oizys. These credits can be exchanged for mech op pilot applications while on the star, or used to draw cosmic fortunes. Please note that lunar credits and Phaenna credits can only be obtained and used on their respective stars.

Oizys Exploration Tokens

  • Oizys exploration tokens can be exchanged for a special mount. These tokens are awarded upon the completion of EX+ stellar missions. Both the tokens themselves and the mount available for exchange can be sold via the market board.

Daily Successes

  • Upon completing the quest "Mission of Gravity," credits earned via daily successes will be converted to Oizys credits. Please note that daily success points can also be accrued on Sinus Ardorum and Phaenna.

Standard Successes

  • Oizys-specific entries have been added. Standard success progress for other stars may be viewed via the pulldown menu in the Stellar Successes window.

Starward Standings

  • Tallying for Starward Standings has been changed, and will now be based on player contributions from stellar missions, mech ops, and projects undertaken on Oizys. Players can check their current standing by speaking with Scanningway on Oizys (X:18.2 Y:24.0). Contributions made in Sinus Ardorum and Phaenna will not count towards your contribution score.

Commendation

  • Star Contributors will be honored for fourteen days in the following ways:
    • A hologram of the player will be displayed on Oizys (X:18.2 Y:23.8).
    • The player's name will be displayed on the starward standings stela on Oizys (X:18.2 Y:24.0).
    • A special visual effect will be applied to the character in cosmic exploration areas.
  • Star Contributors cannot be reselected for fourteen days. However, if the current Star Contributor still holds the highest contribution score on the fourteenth day after being selected, they will be designated as Star Contributor again on the following day.

Artifact Search

  • Artifact search missions can now be undertaken.

Finding Artifacts

  • Increase your gold count by undertaking class A missions, including those designated as EX or EX+, or provisional missions to receive dronebits as a reward.
  • Once you have collected enough dronebits, you may exchange them for drone modules by speaking with Kaede on Oizys (X:17.3 Y:24.1).
  • Drone modules can be used to analyze the area via reconnaissance drone and locate artifacts, which will be displayed on the map.
  • Examine artifacts on the field to obtain unappraised ancient records.
  • Speak with Kaede to appraise your findings.

Cosmic tools can now be further enhanced.

  • By participating in cosmic exploration, players can obtain class-specific tools for Disciples of the Hand and Land which can be enhanced.

Enhancing Cosmic Tools

  • By completing stellar missions, players will obtain research data critical for tool enhancement. Cosmic prototypes do not need to be equipped to accrue research data. Players can confirm required research via "Cosmic Research" on the exotablet.
  • Once players have accrued sufficient research data, they may report to Researchingway on the star on which they currently reside. Doing so will allow players to obtain enhanced prototypes and cosmic tools. While players may obtain numerous cosmic prototypes and tools, research data can only be accrued via stellar missions for any given class.

System Changes

  • In order to reduce server congestion, we will be implementing multiple field instances for Oizys. We will monitor server activity and remove this feature when congestion is determined to no longer be an issue.
  • Solution Nine, Living Memory, and Phaenna will no longer be separated into multiple instances.
  • New achievements and titles have been added.
  • New portrait and adventurer plate accents have been added.
  • Additions have been made to the auto-translation dictionary.
  • Additions have been made to the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X/S auto-complete dictionaries.
  • New trophies (PS5) and achievements (Xbox Series X/S) have been added.
  • New music and sound effects have been added.

Resolved Issues

The following issues have been addressed:

  • An issue during Hell on Rails and Hell on Rails (Extreme) wherein the boss action Runaway Train occasionally did not inflict damage.
  • An issue during AAC Heavyweight M1 and AAC Heavyweight M1 (Savage) wherein the attack indicator for Coffinfiller, as performed by coffinmakers, occasionally displayed incorrectly.
  • An issue during AAC Heavyweight M1 (Savage) wherein the boss action Sanguine Scratch was not executed under certain conditions.

  • An issue with the boss action Majestic Meteor during AAC Heavyweight M3 (Savage) wherein effects would occasionally display incorrectly and no damage would be inflicted if tethered players distanced themselves a certain amount.
  • An issue during AAC Heavyweight M4 (Savage) wherein the platform splitting due to the boss action Lindwurm's Meteor would cause player incapacitation under certain conditions.
  • An issue wherein players could not change jobs within certain treasure dungeons.
  • An issue wherein the status Transcendent would prevent damage for actions that nullify its invulnerability effect.
  • An issue during Crystalline Conflict wherein the Party List and certain HUD elements would become inoperable under certain conditions.
  • An issue with Air Force One (The Cieldalaes) wherein the collision detection of certain targets was incorrect.
  • An issue when equipping the Noir Hat as a female Hrothgar wherein the option "Manually adjust visor" would not be reflected.

    • Antiquated Tantra Chestwrap / Tantra Chestwrap / Virtu Tantra Chestwrap
  • An issue wherein executing specific actions under certain conditions and while mounted would prevent job changes until the same action was performed again.
    • We have implemented provisional measures to ensure job changes become available after 10 seconds have passed. Additionally, using the general action Sprint will reverse the block against job changes. An official fix for this issue is scheduled to be implemented in Patch 7.5.
  • An issue wherein the eye color and hairstyle of the minion Grooving Green were incorrect.
  • An issue wherein certain gathering points would occasionally not be displayed in the Diadem.

Known Issues

    • If you encounter this issue, enter the text command /ac "Duty Action I" into the chat log and return to the rainbow crystal via Stellar Return.
  • An issue when playing the Oizys cosmic exploration sidequest "Mission of Gravity" wherein the quest progression icon displayed above a certain NPC is incorrect.
    • The icon displays correctly on the map.
  • An issue when undertaking the mech op directive "Mine Phainite" on Phaenna wherein applicable gathering points become unavailable if, while the Extractor Beam is ready, players distance themselves far enough for the gathering points' visual effects to disappear.
    • If you encounter this issue, use the Extractor Beam on an available gathering point. The next time Extractor Beam is ready for use, previous gathering points should become targetable.
  • An issue when playing Lord of Verminion wherein the ability of a certain minion added in Patch 7.41 does not perform correctly.
    • The ability currently reduces movement speed by 50%, however the correct amount should be 70% as indicated by the help text.
