Final Fantasy 14 players took to social media to express their issues about the Fall Guys collaboration that came to the game with the release of Patch 6.51. In a few videos, some Final Fantasy 14 players captured moments where the game's server ticks and latency cost them a chance at a crown in the Fall Guys mini-game.
First revealed at the 2023 Las Vegas Fan Fest, the Final Fantasy 14 and Fall Guys collaboration was one of the most unexpected collaborations of 2023. In Fall Guys, the Warrior of Lights Fame Pass was available from August 22 to October 3, which gave players the chance to earn FF14-themed outfits in Fall Guys based on characters such as a Chocobo, a Namazu, and a Dragoon. While the Fame Pass had run its course by the time Final Fantasy 14 started its side of the collaboration, players wondered when Fall Guys would make its way to Eorzea. However, players would not have to wait too much longer to experience the Blunderdome for themselves.
The Fall Guys crossover arrived in Final Fantasy 14 with the release of Patch 6.51 on Halloween. On the r/ffxiv subreddit, Final Fantasy 14 players shared testimonies about their experiences within the Blunderdome and the frustrations that came with the way the game's servers handled the new attraction. In two videos shared by Reddit users anixall and ipsusu, the race for the crown was marred by server ticks that registered the location of themselves and other players differently from one another. In anixall's clip, their character was hit by a falling object despite their character being farther away from it. In ipsusu's clip, their character was in range to jump for the crown, but the game granted the crown to another player who seemingly was behind but then was shown to be ahead a few frames later.
In another video shared by a Redditor named Lokiberry from Saucery Seige round, their character was stunned by a sliding barrier that they had moved out of over a second prior. This hit stunned the player, caused them to drop their crystal, and forced them to start their run again. In the comments of each video, Final Fantasy 14 players provided different suggestions for Square Enix to implement. Although this issue is far from the only bug with the Patch 6.5 series, Square Enix had yet to comment on it at the time of writing.
With new rewards and achievements for Final Fantasy 14 players to get, the Fall Guys collaboration will run until New Year's Eve. Only time will tell what Square Enix will do to address player complaints.
