Joining the bevy of other strange things players could traverse Eorzea with, Final Fantasy 14 Online has now given players the ability to fly around by holding onto a bunch of balloons. The critically acclaimed MMO is no stranger to giving players many options as to what they may use to travel through the multitude of areas that the game possesses, so players logging onto the game's online store shouldn't find it unsurprising that this is the newest addition. It certainly isn't the strangest thing Final Fantasy 14 Online has allowed players as a mount.Final Fantasy 14 Online, being an MMO that has been running for over 10 years and counting, has more than 200 mounts to choose from. These include airships, beasts, vehicles, even a chocolate variant of a Korpokkur as part of a collaboration with Butterfinger. While most of these are available to obtain through playing the game, be the content easy or hard, some find themselves being put on the game's online store for sale, one of the more recent ones being an enlarged version of a Shiba Inu. In the latest patch for Final Fantasy 14 Online, along with multiple fixes and a temporary stall on the automatic demolition of player housing, a few new items were added to the online store. While they did add in a new barding for a player's chocobo, the more outstanding item that caught everyone's eye was the newest mount: the Ceruleum Balloons, a bunch of colorful balloons filled with ceruleum gas, a fictional fuel source in the game's world. The official Twitter for Final Fantasy 14 Online even posted a tweet announcing the new mount alongside a sale.
The sale, unfortunately, will only apply to items relating to recent Valentione's Day event, so players will have to pay a steep 24 dollars to be able to use the mount. And while the Ceruleum Balloons can only be used by a single person, it is account-wide, so any players who buy it will be able to use it across all characters linked to their account, no matter what world or data center these characters happen to be on.
As Final Fantasy 14 Online's player base continues to grow, so to will the content that is made available to them, even if some of those are locked to the online store. This only means more options for the player, a factor that makes up the entirety of the MMO, giving players many choices as to what they want. This colorful new addition to the roster of mounts that the game possesses will only make traveling through the world all the more interesting, as seeing Hrothgars and Lalafells fly by only a bunch of balloons should be a funny sight.
Final Fantasy 14 Online is available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
