Summary

  • Final Fantasy 14 devs are eager to collaborate with Monster Hunter Wilds, showing strong interest in a potential crossover.
  • The FF14 team previously worked on a successful Monster Hunter World collaboration.
  • There is no official announcement for such a team-up yet, but with interest from Square Enix, hopefilly one will happen.

Final Fantasy 14 lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa recently commented on the potential for a Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration. The popular MMORPG previously collaborated with Monster Hunter World, leading many fans to hope that the Final Fantasy 14 developers are willing to work with Capcom again to give fans more new content.

In 2018, Square Enix and Capcom announced and launched a crossover between Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter World with free collaboration content in both games. Final Fantasy 14 players teamed up to take on Monster Hunter's Rathalos in a special quest, while Monster Hunter World players worked together to hunt down Final Fantasy's Behemoth. Completing these quests would unlock rewards like a Palico minion in Final Fantasy 14 and Dragoon armor in Monster Hunter World. The content was well received by fans at that time, and some were left wondering if another Monster Hunter collaboration would happen, since 2021's Monster Hunter Rise did not collaborate with Final Fantasy 14.

The developers of Final Fantasy 14 are fans of the Monster Hunter series, and they would love to work on a Monster Hunter Wilds crossover if the opportunity arises, according to a Gamesradar+ interview with Final Fantasy 14's lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa. However, Nakagawa notes that the team will do their best to enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds first before proceeding with the steps necessary to make the collab happen. Nakagawa also stated that the game designer who handled the battle content for the Monster Hunter World collab is still motivated and has some ideas about what they want to do for "next time."

Final Fantasy 14 Developer Comments on Potential Monster Hunter Wilds Collab

  • Lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa would love to work on a Monster Hunter Wilds collab.
  • The Final Fantasy 14 development team are fans of the Monster Hunter franchise.
  • There's nothing to announce at this time, but the Final Fantasy 14 developers are enthusiastic about creating new collab content if the opportunity arises.

If given the opportunity to work on a Monster Hunter Wilds collab, Nakagawa says the Final Fantasy 14 development team "could create something amazing with our overwhelming enthusiasm." Although a new collab was not confirmed, Final Fantasy 14 players can still access the Monster Hunter World content to this day with a character that completed the Stormblood main scenario quest and reached level 70.

It's clear that the Final Fantasy 14 developers are hopeful to work again with Capcom, but fans will likely need to wait until after the release of Monster Hunter Wilds before anything official can be announced. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to be released on February 28, 2025, as the successor to Monster Hunter World, and it's a major game release that both Monster Hunter fans and the Final Fantasy 14 developers are very much looking forward to.
