Final Fantasy 14 often makes crossovers with other games. While some are expectedly connected to other Final Fantasy games, the collaborations have taken various forms, with limited-time events as happened with Dragon Quest, or even permanently accessible content, as is the case with the Nier raids. That was also the case with the Monster Hunter World collaboration, which added several items to the game that are still available now, even though the event originally happened in 2018.
Between new armor to use for glamours and furnishing to decorate housing, the rewards for the event are many. One of the most notable, however, is the mount you can unlock in Final Fantasy 14, based on Monster Hunter's Rathalos. While originally it was quite hard to get, currently max level players can get it a lot more easily — here is how!

How To Get The Rathalos Mount In Final Fantasy 14
The first thing the player must do is ensure they meet the requirements to do the event's quest. For that, they must be level 70 and must have completed the Main Scenario Quest "Stormblood." With that done, the next step is to go to Kugane. There, the player must speak to the Hearty Hunter (X: 9.7, Y: 8.9) and pick up the quest "The New King On The Block." The nearest Aetheryte to get to him is Bokairo Inn, and the quest will be marked with a content unlock quest symbol (the blue quest symbol).
The player will hear about a bill posted on the hunting board for a monster unlike any other. Without many details, the Warrior of Light will be sent to the Azim Steppe to investigate rumors of this mighty beast. Teleporting to Reunion will leave the adventurer right where their next goal is, as they will have to talk to a few people in the area to learn more about the monster. There are three NPCs the player must speak to: the Adamant Oroniri Warrior (X: 32.2, Y: 27.9), the Wayfaring Kha Hunter (X: 32.2, Y: 26.8), and the Apprehensive Auri Traveler (X: 33.0, Y: 27.0). They can be seen below:
After speaking to them, the quest will direct the player to talk to the Concerned Qestir (X: 31.7, Y: 27.2). He will point you in the right direction, indicating the next objective is southwest. Traveling in that direction, the player will find a glowing spot at X: 27.7, Y: 32.9, where they will have to wait for some clue about the beast.
Rathalos will make a brief appearance in a cutscene, and a charismatic cat-like creature will introduce himself as the one responsible for the hunting bill that started the quest, calling himself Felyne. Once the Warrior of Light agrees to help him, he will direct them to the northwest, where he will be waiting near the entrance to the dungeon Bardam's Mettle, more specifically at (X: 11.8, Y: 11.1).
Talking to him will unlock the trial The Great Hunt, which has a special mechanic based on Monster Hunter. The game will explain that the player will have access to Mega Potions while on this duty, but their use is limited. It also warns the player that a special reward will be available by examining Rathalos' remains, so make sure to examine those before leaving the duty.
Completing the duty will reward the player with a few Rathalos Scales. Subsequently, by completing the quest, the player will receive the Palico Minion, an Indoor BBQ Spit, and a BBQ Spit, the last two being items for housing.
The game will then explain that Rathalos Scales can be traded for various goods by talking to the Smithy NPC. The prizes include Orchestrion Rolls, armor, the Poogie Minion, and, last but not least, the Rathalos Whistle, which is the item necessary to get the Rathalos Mount. It costs 50 Rathalos Scales.
It's important to note the scales needed for some rewards are not the ones received when completing the regular duty. The mount requires Rathalos Scale+, a different item that can only be obtained in the Extreme version of the trial.
Upon completing "The New King On The Block," the Hearty Hunter will offer the quest "The Newer King On The Block" to access the Extreme version of the trial, which is required to get the mount (and can be one of the duties in Wondrous Tails). After approaching the NPC, there is a bit of conversation and a short cutscene before the quest is completed, unlocking The Great Hunt (Extreme).

Final Fantasy 14 Online allows players to create and use Materia. Here's a guide to help you out with it.
How To Get Rathalos Scale+ In Final Fantasy 14
There is a small chance the mount will drop on the trial, but it's a really rare drop. For those who don't have the luck to get it through the drop, it will be necessary to complete The Great Hunt EX 50 times, as the trial only gives players one Rathalos Scale+ per run.
It's possible to try to get the mount by completing the EX trial with Level Sync enabled, although it is recommended to only do so with a pre-made party, which can be formed using the Party Finder.
It's worth noting Free Trial players won't have access to this feature.
Still, the easiest (and fastest) way to do it is to complete the trial with an Unrestricted Party (unsynced). As of Endwalker, it is possible to solo The Great Hunt EX with many level 90 jobs, but doing it with other people (even just one other level 90 player) makes the fight a lot faster, which can be really useful for farming scales.
It is not recommended to use healers for this fight, as the second stage of the trial renders healing skills useless.
For those who have no one to farm with, Party Finder often has unsynced parties farming Rathalos Scales. If none are immediately available, the player can also start a group with that objective, as it probably won't be difficult to find other players interested in farming fast.
It's not recommended to use the Duty Finder to farm the scales in North American and European data centers, as it is typical to do Extreme content through the Party Finder.
The trial itself starts similar to many other fights in Final Fantasy 14, where players need to be mindful of their positioning and deal as much damage as possible while avoiding any hits. The last part is particularly important here, as Rathalos' attacks will often push the player back and stun them.
Several other animals will appear during the fight, but it's crucial to pay attention to Garula, a mammoth-like creature that will knock Rathalos down briefly. When it appears, players must kill it fast and hide behind its corpse to survive Rathalos' next attack. This will lead to the second phase, during which he will use the same attacks as before. There is a DPS check then that makes it necessary to kill Rathalos before his enrage; otherwise, he will instantly kill everyone after taking up to the skies — but it's not hard to defeat him before that when fighting the boss unsynced and with other players.
Remember to interact with the corpse of the boss after the fight to get the scales. To get the Rathalos Scale+, it's mandatory to cut off the Rathalos' tail before killing it, so be careful not to kill it too fast.
Completing The Great Hunt (Extreme) will give you one Rathalos Scale+ and four Rathalos Scales. There is a chance a chest will show up with the Poogie Minion, the Proof of a Hero - Monster Hunter: World Version Orchestrion Roll, and rarely the Rathalos Whistle. The player will also get the achievement "Extreme Rathalos Hunter" the first time the fight is successfully completed. Once that is done, the player will have to repeat the trial until achieving the necessary number of Scales to trade for the Whistle, which will go to the inventory. Remember to use it to finally acquire one of the best mounts in Final Fantasy 14.
