Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail's new level cap and high-end duties mean new Best In Slot Gear sets for each and every class. This can be confusing to players, as the math for DPS is fairly opaque in Final Fantasy - higher level gear isn't always better. Magical DPS in particular have specific break points and stat priorities they should achieve.
As a result, many players head to third party websites for gear set planning and advice. Keep reading for the BiS gear set of every Magical DPS Job in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, the melded Materia players should choose, and tips on how to farm the best gear in the expansion.
Final Fantasy 14: Best In Slot Dawntrail Gear For Every Ranged DPS
Final Fantasy 14 players want to know which gear is Best in Slot in Dawntrail's new raids. Find the verdict for Bard, Dancer, and Machinist here.
Best In Slot Gear For Black Mage
Black Mage is one of the few combat jobs in the game that lacks a clear stat priority. This job can benefit greatly from any number of stats such as Spell Speed, Critical Hit, Determination, or Direct Hit Rate. As a result, the gear's Item Level (and thus maximum overall stat increase) is usually the most important attribute.
This build is designed for players who want to focus on high damage Critical Hits at the expense of longer cast times, which is what most people associate with the iconic Black Mage.

Alternative Build Paths
Because of its flexible stat priorities, Black Mage is one of the Jobs with the most build flexibility. There are two viable paths to an endgame gearset for Black Mage. In the first, players should get Spell Speed to ~1.3k and then focus on Crit and Item Level. However, it is also viable to maximize Direct Hit and Spell Speed to reduce cast times instead. Both builds will result in similar damage outputs but feel very different to play.
Best In Slot Gear For Summoner
Summoners desire Critical Hit and Spell Speed (to GCD 2.4 - 2.5) above all other stats, alongside healthy amounts of Determination and Direct Hit Rate. This makes their BiS one of the most difficult to farm, as the Arcadion Raid Gear has their desired stats in spades.

Pre-Raid Gear
If players haven't been able to farm all the Light-heavy gear used in this gearset, then substituting it with Tomestone of Aesthetics gear is the next best thing.

Healers in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail should upgrade their gear before heading into the new Savage Raids. Here is the Best in Slot for each job.
Best In Slot Gear For Pictomancer
As the new kid on the block, Pictomancer has received a lot of attention thus far. When playing it in high-end Duties, players should focus on Weapon Damage and Intelligence first, then Critical Hit, then everything else. This makes full use of the Pictomancer's strengths, which lie in its rapid basic rotation followed by high-damage burst windows.

Best In Slot Gear For Red Mage
Red Mages are by far the most consistent damage dealers of the Caster DPS lineup because of Dualcast and their powerful melee moves. Critical Hit and Determination are the primary stats of the Red Mage's BiS, while they avoid Spell Speed like the plague due to their natively fast casting times.
