The critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV concluded its main scenario quest with Endwalker in December 2021. That hasn’t stopped veterans and new players from flooding every server even after the MSQ’s conclusion. FF 14’s encouragement of multiplayer interactions and a welcoming player community attract players who want to see why the MMORPG is well-loved.

In a collaborative environment, it’s inevitable that players would fall in love and want to marry, or roleplay characters who decide to tie the knot. FF 14 introduced an elaborate marriage system to the game back in 2014 called The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding perfect for true, or pretend, lovers.

What Is The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding?

The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding or Eternal Bond is the formal name of FF 14’s marriage system. Players of any race, gender, region, or Grand Companies may marry. They may even file for a divorce once Bonded.

The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding Requirements

The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding may only be initiated after players register for Eternal Bond, To do that, they must purchase one of the following plans in the FF 14 online store.

Standard Plan

Gold Plan

Platinum Plan

$20 or $10/person

$40 or $20 per person

Each plan confers different cosmetics and bonuses. Gold and Platinum plans also have more options for ceremony favors, decorations, guest favors, cutscenes, and music.

Before buying any plan, players must ensure they have the same Home World as their spouse, and have identical promise wristlets. The wristlet with less value will determine the service plan. Once partners have wristlets, they may take on the quest The Ties That Bind.

Planning The Wedding

Raitmeaux will help players change their ceremony style. The Lover's Kiss is informal and ends with a kiss, The Spinner's Hand concludes with a toast to the Twelve, and The Solemn Oath is non-denominational and ends with a contract signing.

Depending on their plan, they will have different options for how their wedding will be presented. Standard plans typically have no choice at all, while Gold and Platinum plans have more options for:

  • Chapel decoration
  • Procession and recession
  • Bouquet bearer
  • Music

Couples may register the time and date of their ceremony with the NPC Etoinelle at the Sanctum of the Twelve in East Shroud. Platinum plan couples will have an advantage over the other two plans when it comes to scheduling. Guests can be invited at this stage.

What To Do On The Day Of The Wedding

Partners and guests should have at least three hours to spare for the ceremony. The entire ceremony takes, at most, two real-life hours, and the waiting time between the Sanctum of the Twelve’s doors opening and the ceremony starting is 40 Earth minutes.

Couples don’t have to do much on the day of their ceremony. They will see their choices play out as they make their entrance, give an address to guests, receive blessings, and exchange rings. Should they wish to speed things up, couples may ring the eternity bell to skip phases. Reception follows the exchange of rings.

Benefits of Marriage

Once the couple reports to Claribel to complete The Ties That Bind, couples will receive rewards according to their service plan. They may also register their anniversary at the Sanctum of the Twelve to re-accept The Ties That Bind quest on the day of the occasion. The re-accepted quest allows players to use every option available to the platinum plan, regardless of their previous plan.

The eternity rings the couple receives allows them to teleport to their partner for free if they are not in the same instanced area. Free teleportation aside, players can also use the ring to help friends complete quests in areas soft-locked by flying or other such hindrances.

Gold and Platinum plan weddings also receive a Ceremony Chocobo, an exclusive two-seater mount.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on Windows, PlayStation 3, 4, and 5, and OS X.
