Final Fantasy 14 has announced that it's turning housing demolition on for select worlds in the near future. This move will likely lead to more housing being available for Final Fantasy 14 players on those Worlds.

Final Fantasy 14 doesn't give players housing by default, or even a Mog House like its predecessor MMORPG, Final Fantasy 11. Instead, players can either use an inn, apartment, or purchase a housing lot in Final Fantasy 14. However, shortages in available housing lots have made this difficult for players.

Now, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 14 will be turning housing demolition back on for European Worlds starting in August. This move will come alongside the launch of the 7.3 update for Final Fantasy 14. Housing demolition has been disabled on European data centers since November 2024, due to weather disasters in the region. Final Fantasy 14 occasionally pauses automatic housing demolition to allow users impacted by major events like these a chance to focus on their real lives without having to worry about losing their in-game homes.

Final Fantasy 14 Housing Demolition Continues

Final Fantasy 14 recently lifted the pause on automatic demolition of housing on North American Worlds as well, which has led to an influx of housing lots becoming available again. Initially, the demolition was paused due to the disastrous impact of Hurricane Helene, starting in October 2024. It was slated to be lifted in early January, but Square Enix postponed the move due to the massive wildfires in Southern California. That pause was finally lifted in June 2025.

While this is a good opportunity for players lacking homes on European Worlds, it also underlines the ongoing problem with housing in Final Fantasy 14. Due to the way the housing system works, there aren't enough lots available for everyone, leaving players to try their luck in housing lotteries whenever a spot becomes available. Meanwhile, auto-demolition is frustrating for players who do own property, as those who don't enter their homes for too long will lose their lot, even if they're actively subscribed to the game. These issues have drawn comparisons between Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft, with some FF14 players expressing envy over how World of Warcraft housing will work.

Those who haven't entered their homes or Free Company in Final Fantasy 14 and are on a European World should consider doing so soon. Square Enix has warned that due to the way the demolition timer works, it may expire for some homeowners before the 7.3 maintenance is complete, so it would be wise to drop in prior to that.
