Summary

  • Quality-of-life updates for Final Fantasy 14 are in development, including chat bubbles and raid strategy planner.
  • Group Pose feature enhancements coming in future content updates, allowing Fishers to pose while casting lines.
  • THe chat bubbles feature, with different colored letters for chat types, and Raid Strategy Planner will be released in upcoming patches.

At PAX West 2024, Final Fantasy 14 lead user interface designer Kei Odagiri stated that some quality-of-life features, such as chat bubbles and a raid strategy planner, were still in development at Square Enix. Odagiri also stated some enhancements to the Group Pose feature would arrive in Final Fantasy 14 via future content updates.

The panel occurred amid a swarm of Final Fantasy 14 interviews conducted at Gamescom and PAX West and a month after the release of Patch 7.05. The latest content update for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail brought the first Savage tier of the Arcadion raid series into the spotlight, challenged groups of level 100 players to delve into the Cenote Ja Ja Gural treasure dungeon, and introduced some balance changes for Jobs such as Viper, Monk, and Black Mage. The balance updates to Viper and Monk also meant Square Enix had to alter their respective Job gauges to reflect the changes made in Patch 7.05.

As Final Fantasy 14 prepares future content updates for the rest of Dawntrail, some quality-of-life updates were confirmed to still be in the pipeline. At a PAX West 2024 panel, Odagiri was joined by global community producer Toshio Muroicchi and translator Aimi Tokutake, where they discussed some statistics and features about the game's user interface and control schemes. During the latter half of the panel, Odagiri touched upon the Group Pose feature, and some tricks players have used to get a shot in portrait mode. Knowing how cumbersome taking vertical portraits can be without sacrificing screen resolution, Odagiri said a portrait mode option for Group Pose was in development. Odagiri also stated that a Group Pose update tentatively planned for Patch 7.1 would allow Fishers to take a Group Pose while their line is cast.

Final Fantasy 14 Shares Quality-Of-Life Feature Updates

Odagiri then gave Final Fantasy 14 players looking for word about the long-awaited Chat Bubbles feature some good news. While no timetable was given for its release, Odagiri said that the Chat Bubbles feature is still in development, and shared a screenshot that showed different colored letters for each chat type. Odagiri also added that players could filter which chats would appear as bubbles. Odagiri also shared an update on the Raid Strategy Planner feature, which would allow Final Fantasy 14 players to organize a plan of attack in high-end raids.

Odagiri also confirmed that the Strategy Planner was planned to be released during Dawntrail's upcoming patches. As Final Fantasy 14 players celebrate the annual Rising event, it remains to be seen how many planned features will arrive sooner rather than later.
