Final Fantasy 14 just announced Beastmaster is coming to the critically acclaimed MMORPG as a limited job. This special class will arrive in Final Fantasy 14 somewhere late in the Dawntrail patch cycle.
The last Fan Festival for the season just wrapped up in Japan this weekend, bringing with it tons of new information about Dawntrail. One of the biggest reveals was that of the Pictomancer, the second new job coming in the Final Fantasy 14 expansion.
New Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail Hub City Looks Straight Out of Cyberpunk 2077
Final Fantasy 14 reveals the second hub city for the Dawntrail expansion, but it looks more like Cyberpunk 2077's Night City than anything else.
However, the Pictomancer was not the only class announced during Tokyo FanFest. Final Fantasy 14 had previously teased a new limited job would be coming sometime after Dawntrail as well. FF14 confirmed this new limited job would be the Beastmaster–the iconic monster-taming class seen in several earlier Final Fantasy titles in its long history. Players can expect it to join Final Fantasy 14's Blue Mage as the second limited job late in Dawntrail’s patch cycle.
What is a Limited Job in Final Fantasy 14?
- Limited jobs have a lower level cap than normal combat, crafting, and gathering classes.
- They cannot be used in PvP, Duty Finder queues, field operations like Bozja and Eureka, and certain other types of content.
- They can enter most Dungeons, Trials, and Raids in pre-formed and undersized groups, and can participate in open-world activities.
- Limited jobs are not balanced against other Final Fantasy 14 jobs, often making them extremely powerful and versatile.
- They have special content, challenges, and mechanics with the game world unique to them.
Little is known about this new limited job so far, but players can infer a few things by looking at Blue Mage and story elements from the Bozjan Southern Front, one of Final Fantasy 14’s field operations. Blue Mage allows players to tank, heal, or DPS by capturing abilities learned from monsters and bosses from all over the game world, and has special challenges and achievements unique to them. Beastmaster NPCs wielding one-handed axes and shields also appear during the Bozja storyline as enemies. With this in mind, players theorize the playable Beastmaster may use these weapons as well, and will be able to travel the world taming and training monsters to use in battle.
Fans are understandably excited about Beastmaster finally coming to Final Fantasy 14. While some are disappointed it is a limited job, making it one will allow Final Fantasy 14 to create a truly unique experience for Beastmasters, without having to worry about class balance. Though players may have to wait over a year to find out, they are already curious to learn how this job will work, and what iconic Final Fantasy monsters they can tame once it is released.
