WARNING: The following article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the main story of Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail. With the launch of Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1, Square Enix confirmed that some dialogue in Dawntrail's climactic battle was re-recorded. The English dialogue in the Interphos trial's ending was altered in response to Final Fantasy 14 player feedback, and the change was received positively.

The updated voice lines were just part of the changes made in Final Fantasy 14's Crossroads update. Along with adding new story quests and introducing content such as the Echoes of Vana'diel alliance raids, Patch 7.1 adjusted the potency of several Jobs in both PVE and PVP modes. Jobs such as Dark Knight, Gunbreaker, and Black Mage received significant gameplay upgrades, while others like Machinist, Summoner, and Red Mage received incremental boosts to some of their core abilities. Square Enix said that further Job changes will come throughout the rest of Dawntrail, and encouraged continued player feedback.

Aside from gameplay updates, one of Dawntrail's most discussed moments received changes after player feedback was considered. On the r/ffxiv subreddit, players noticed that pieces of dialogue in the level 100 main story Trial, The Interphos, were updated in Patch 7.1. Once players brought the final boss of Patch 7.0, Queen Sphene, down to approximately 25% HP, a cutscene showed another Dawntrail character, Wuk Lamat, entering the battlefield and shouting, "Sphene, listen to me!" As Queen Sphene attempted to repel Wuk Lamat's efforts, the latter fought back and said, "Then face me! Not as a machine, but as the real you!" Followed by yelling Sphene's name. The initial line delivery in Patch 7.0 garnered mixed responses from Final Fantasy 14 players, and some questioned the vocal direction given to Wuk Lamat's English voice actor, Sena Bryer.

Final Fantasy 14 Changes Dialogue of The Interphos Trial

However, Square Enix took fan feedback into account for Patch 7.1 and chose to make changes to Dawntrail's main story finale. Bryer re-rerecorded her dialogue, which featured louder and more guttural yells compared to the previous takes. Following the launch of the Crossroads update, Final Fantasy 14 players praised Bryer and Square Enix for the improvements made in the Interphos Trial. Bryer said on Bluesky that she had to keep the updated lines a secret, and admitted that she lost her voice the day after recording.

Although Final Fantasy 14 players expressed gripes with other pieces of Patch 7.1, the updated lines by Wuk Lamat were a marked improvement. As the story Final Fantasy 14 moves forward, only time will tell how much players will see and hear more from Wuk Lamat.
