How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a simple game with pretty simple rules. But in order to get started playing Wordle for the first time, word puzzle fans will first need to make sure they are in the right place. The original and the version that this article is all about is the New York Times Games version. While there are tons of Wordle copycats and clones, they will have different answers and can have slightly different rules.

The first thing players will need to do is to choose a great starting word. The best starting words for Wordle:

Must be five letters long and a real word.
Must not be one of the words removed from Wordle by the NYT.
Should contain five different common letters.
Should not be a previous answer or a plural noun ending in S.

Next, type the word into the Wordle grid. Press enter. This will cause its letters to change colors.

When letters become green, they are right.
If they are gray, they are wrong.
If they turn yellow, the letter is right but in the wrong place.

Players have six total tries to get to the right answer; each word players put in will change colors as well, giving them even more clues. There is only one puzzle per day, and they reset at midnight local time.
