When jumping into Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, players will have a decent selection of offline and online modes to choose from. But for most people, Arcade Mode will be the go-to for learning characters and combos. In classic fighting game tradition, the Arcade mode tasks players with taking on several powerful opponents in a row. If they manage to survive, players will be awarded an ending cutscene to round off the character's journey.
Considering the cast of Fatal Fury haven't been seen in a mainline game for more than 20 years, it's an absolute blast being able to see what they're all getting up to nowadays, and it's fair to say there's more than a few surprises to look out for. When matching them all up, these are the best arcade endings that players can unlock in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves - 8 Most Fun Characters To Play, Ranked
When putting aside tier lists and looking solely at fun factor, these are the most satisfying fighters to play in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
8 Kevin
Crashes In To Save The Day From A Familiar Foe
The sadistic serial killer known as Freeman makes a surprise appearance in Kevin's ending when he shows up and almost kills Terry's wife, Mary. Though Marky has a gun pointed at Freeman's head, Kevin steps in just in time to help him, reassuring his young trainee that he should never be forced to make the decision to kill someone at such a young age.
This is honestly quite an emotional ending that emphasizes how much Kevin truly cares about not only protecting Marky, but also keeping him on the right track in life. Terry and Mary making a quick cameo is the cherry on top of this already fantastic ending scene.
7 Hokutomaru
Reunites With Andy, The Man Who Taught Him Everything He Knows
In Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, Hokutomaru was still a student of Andy and Mai, but after years of making a name for himself as a crime fighter, the youngster is finally able to reunite with his masters in his ending. Though he's usually presented as being brash and confident, Hokutomaru changes when standing in front of Andy, showcasing a softer side to him that is rarely seen.
Seeing Andy and Mai spurs Hokutomaru to get even stronger, marking a nice point in his development as a character. There are also some funny lines of dialogue in this ending shared between Hokutomaru and Terry, which ensures that the cutscene doesn't feel too serious in its overall tone.
6 B. Jenet
Jenet And Her Lillien Knights Are On The Hunt For Even More Treasure
Jenet's ending kicks off on a serious note. Kain reveals that his sister was affiliated with the villainous Geese Howard, which is why Jenet caught him trying to steal some treasure as a way to pay for her freedom after she's kidnapped. After hearing the tragic story though, Jenet immediately flips the switch. She announces that she already has the treasure he needs, but will also need Kain to pay her, and her crew, for healing Jenet's friend, Grant, from his injuries.
10 Strangest Guest Characters in Fighting Games
Guest characters have become a staple in fighting games, but over the years, some titles have made questionable choices about who they add.
It's been far too long since Jenet and her mighty pirate crew have made an appearance in the series, but showing them off in a more comedic light is a great way to re-introduce the Lillien Knights to the franchise. In the same vein, seeing both the serious and cocky sides of Jenet's character makes this a fun ending to watch, and a real treat for longtime fans of the character.
5 Mai Shiranui
Saves Rock's Life While Running Into An Unlikely Ally
With a little help from a mysterious old man, Mai is able to free Rock from his possession by burning away the dangerous Jin scrolls. After the chaotic incident is finally over, the man reveals that he used a technique from the Mochizuki clan, which was initially designed specifically to kill the Mai's clan, the Shiranui. Seeing Mai's determination and skills in battle encouraged him to lend a hand. After witnessing Mai and Andy embracing one another, he decides that maybe it's good that the Shiranui clan are able to live on after all.
It's always great to see Mai being able to spend some quality time with her beloved Andy. Additionally, the small tidbits of context about the rivalry between the Shiranui and Mochizuki, which has always been a fascinating topic in the series' lore, are what make this such a great final scene.
4 Terry Bogard
A Heartfelt Goodbye Between Terry And His Old Pal Rock
Terry's ending starts off with the series mascot sitting back and taking it easy on a train as he sets off on his next adventure. It quickly becomes clear, though, that not having said goodbye to Rock is starting to bug him. Thankfully, the two share an epic moment when Rock catches up to him with his flashy red motorbike.
In many ways, this feels like an official passing of the torch, and an emotional one at that. Terry flings his iconic hat towards Rock, literally passing the torch. It may not be all that long of a scene, but it's still a great way to give Terry the sendoff he deserves. Keeping his destination a mystery also sets up Terry's role in the future, allowing him to pop up anywhere at anytime to throw down with formidable fighters.
3 Salvatore Ganacci
Ganacci Teams Up With Duck For A Mind-Blowing Music Video
Many Fatal Fury fans were baffled that real-life DJ Salvatore Ganacci was chosen as the game's joke character over series legend Duck, but thankfully, the quirky fighter makes an appearance in Salvatore's hilarious ending. After a fierce fight against Terry, Salvatore finds himself being inspired to write a brand-new song, which he scribbles on the floor with a pencil.
8 Best 2D Fighting Games, Ranked
2D fighters have been around since the arcade days, but which of them are the most fun to jump into nowadays?
After accepting Duck's offer to be in the music video, Salvatore looks to the skies, ready to show the world that he's just as good of a musician as he is a fighter. It's pretty funny seeing several classic Fatal Fury characters interacting with the oddball DJ, but this ending earns bonus points for the inclusion of Duck, who forms an unlikely duo with Ganacci in the final few moments.
2 Vox Reaper
After Grant's Death, Vox Inherits The Mask And Vows To Continue His Legacy
Many of the endings in City of the Wolves involve specific characters saving Rock from the power of the Jin Scrolls. While Vox Reaper follows this trend, there are some intriguing revelations thrown into his ending that make for an exciting watch. At the beginning of the scene, it's revealed that the masked user is Grant, Vox Reaper's mentor, who loses his life after trying to save Marie and Rock.
This encourages Vox to take the mythical mask for himself, leading to an epic final shot of him absorbing its power as he's about to take down a pair of thugs. The inclusion of Grant, paired with stunning artwork and shocking reveals, make Vox Reaper's ending one of the best in the game.
1 Kain
It's Hard Not To Shed A Few Tears
The final scene of Kain's story is a lengthy one, but there's so much going on that it manages to remain exciting from beginning to end. It starts with Kain teaming up with Grant as they humiliate a group of criminals with their explosive attacks and abilities. This chaotic battle is already a feast for the eyes, but what takes this ending to a whole new level is the sit-down they have following the fight.
The two lifelong companions reminisce on their dream of making a "New World" and how that ambitious goal is finally becoming a reality. The artwork, paired with the powerful voice acting and excellent pacing, all come together to create an ending which manages to nail both its emotional moments, and those which are a lot more action-packed.
