The Toretto fambly, the emotional center of the Fast and the Furious franchise is going to expand again in Fast X with Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto getting a kid of his own who will appear to be an actual character rather than a bargaining chip, kidnap victim, or barely there toddler, and he’ll be played by Leo Abelo Perry.
Variety, in a new piece of casting on the finale (for now) of the main Fast franchise, notes how the child actor, who made his debut on Disney+, will be taking on the role of Brian Marcos Toretto, Dom’s lovechild.
Fast X is shaping up to be a gigantic ending for the franchise, stuffed to the brim with fanservice to send off the action racing series in a spectacular fashion. Latest news is that Leo Abelo Perry will be playing the lovechild of Dom Toretto and stepchild of Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) in the tenth main Fast and the Furious movie. Named Brian Marcos Toretto, the Brian coming from Dom’s best friend, Brian O’Connor (played by the late Paul Walker), the child, as fans remember, is the son of Dom and Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky), who he was with when he thought Letty was murdered.
Leo Abelo Perry got his start playing the son of Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union in Disney+ most recent remake of Cheaper by the Dozen. He’s also starred on sitcoms like Blackish and most recently played Chip in the live-action Beauty and the Beast musical spectacular. The young actor is also busy with his pursuit of social justice with a strong bent toward racial equality led by his dance troupe, Dance for Justice, which helps the Black Lives Matter movement and has his own podcast, “The Activators,” and leads Justice Kids for Peace, keeping him well within the franchise's family mindset.
Brian Marcos Toretto was played in previous installments by Carlos De La Hoz in The Fate of the Furious and Isaac and Immanuel Holdane in F9. He was held hostage by Cipher (Charlize Theron) who later killed his mother while using Dom’s son as collateral for having Dom assist her cyberterrorism. In F9 Dom and Letty are trying to be the best parents they can be, with Dom introducing his son to working on vehicles and telling the boy what the track means to him. Leo Abelo Perry joins Fast X as an even older Brian becoming a part of the growing Furious fambly.
Fast X drops February 19, 2023.
