Day and night are two cycles that you can switch between in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. However, this gameplay mechanic won't be readily available until you've made some progress in Chapter 1. Of course, as you progress through Fantasy Life i's main quests, you'll unlock more features that make it easier (and cheaper) to pass the time. Until then, you'll need to use inns.

Every Method of Passing Time
When passing time, you'll have to choose between morning and night. There are three ways to change time:
- Rest at an inn.
- Rest at Camp Sites.
- Rest in your house.
The inn is available for you during Chapter 1. In fact, you'll be given a "tutorial" on passing time when you go to complete Chapter 1's "Talk to Auntie Ann" quest. During this, your stay at the inn will be free, but from here on out, you will be expected to cover your own costs. For example, the Merc's Inn at Eternia Village costs 10 Dosh per night.
Resting at inns is another way to recover your HP/SP if you're out of HP/SP-recovery items.
Camp Sites are tents in the overworld that you can rest at to pass time. Doing so will also replenish your HP and SP.
Finally, there's your house. You'll unlock this towards the end of Chapter 2. In fact, you need to rest at your house to progress the story. Unlike the inns, resting at your inn doesn't cost you any Dosh, so it'll likely become your preferred way to pass time.
Day and Night Cycle Explained
Why Should You Pass Time?
At first, changing the time doesn't seem to have any benefits. However, different gameplay mechanics can be influenced by the day/night cycle.
- If you're going to complete quests, then you may be required to look for a monster that only appears at night, etc. One example is the Red Wolf monster. For a Fledgling Challenge, you'll need to defeat 6 Red Wolves, which spawn near the Capital of Mysteria, but only at night.
- Monsters aren't the only creatures that can be influenced by the day/nighttime cycle. Material drops can be different at different times. If you're working on your Fish Life, then you'll need to fish at different times of day to catch the rarer species.
- There are also NPCs that will only spawn during the day (or night).
You'll also want to take note of shops, since most of them will lock their doors when the sun goes down. Be sure you're stocked up on supplies.
