Fallout 4 was released back in 2015 to generally favorable reviews. The game took a slightly different direction than the Fallout games of the past, focusing on providing a streamlined experience by condensing or simplifying various elements from previous games. Naturally, this decision led to some fans feeling as though the game was missing key features that had become staples of the franchise up to that point. Fallout 4 excelled in gameplay and provided polish in many areas, but for longtime fans, the sacrifices made the game fall short of expectations.

As the years went on, talented gamers united under a common sentiment that the game could be made better with the addition of certain features and mechanics. As Fallout has one of the most impressive modding communities in gaming, Fallout 4 became the perfect canvas. The modding community consisting of passionate volunteers has been hard at work developing content to live up to the legacy of the franchise. Two of the largest and most ambitious mods for Fallout 4, Fallout: London and Fallout: Cascadia, take different approaches to fulfilling this goal, but each comes from a place of genuine passion and admiration for the source material. Both of these mods are made by fans for fans and offer an impressive and respectable amount of free content for players to enjoy.

Why Fallout Crossing The Pond In Fallout: London Is So Unique

Fallout: London takes a unique approach to the Fallout 4 mod scene by bringing the series into a completely different country; England in the United Kingdom. The developers of Fallout: London have taken great care to fully utilize the unique atmosphere, humor, aesthetic, and style of London. One of the major overhaul mods for Fallout 4, Fallout: London, seeks to provide an entirely original map to explore, factions to interact with, and an original story to progress through. Many of the locations and characters in the mod feel perfectly fitting for the new experience.

Unlike other Fallout 4 mods which seek to add mechanics to the existing game or recreate elements of previous Fallout games, London seeks to provide something completely new. Though it is likely intended to feel very familiar to fans of the series, what sets this mod apart is the fact that it will not feature any of the previous factions or organizations that are unique to the United States in the Fallout universe. This means Vault-Tec and the Vault-Boy will be replaced by a British alternative and existing enemy types will be replaced by something original. There are many interesting details about this mod that fans can explore as they wait for the full release in the future.

How Fallout: Cascadia Attempts To Replace Fallout 4

Fallout: Cascadia also seeks to provide a brand-new Fallout experience like other replacement mods, but does so uniquely. This mod brings players to the Pacific Northwest for the first time in the area surrounding Seattle. The original story of the game will include a combination of both new factions and some familiar ones. Namely, the NCR, from New Vegas and other Fallout games. Fallout: Cascadia seems to be providing an alternative to Fallout 4 by bringing players a setting and story that would have made sense to follow 3 and New Vegas.

Aside from the setting and story, Cascadia also seeks to bring the franchise back to its roots through gameplay. Addressing the major gameplay mechanics missing from Fallout 4, such as the minimal dialogue options, the removal of skills and traits, and weapon durability, the developers hope to provide a game more in line with the classics. Fallout: Cascadia is said to provide one of the largest open worlds ever seen in a Fallout game and will be free to play once it is made available to fans in the future.
