As with any other MMO, there’s no shortage of endgame activities for players to dive into in Fallout 76. However, the true endgame experience of Fallout 76 is often jokingly said to be finding the best spot on the map and building the perfect CAMP there. With new CAMP furnishings regularly being added to the Atomic Shop store or as SCORE rewards through the Seasons rewards track, there are countless possibilities for what players can build in Fallout 76.

Of all the scenic places that players can build CAMPs in Fallout 76, there are a few limitations for building over bodies of water. Unless players utilize some kind of workaround, like having a connected foundation directly touching the ground, building CAMP structures over top of water typically isn't allowed. According to recent leaks, though, building over water in Fallout 76 is about to become much easier when Season 21 kicks off in Fallout 76 in the Summer of 2025.

Fallout 76’s Fishing Update and Season 21 Could Permanently Shake Up CAMP Building

Fallout 76’s Season 21 Leaks Reveal New CAMP Items for Building Over Water

Ahead of Season 21 in Fallout 76, new leaks have been reported from a reliable source, giving players a preview of what to expect from the limited-time SCORE rewards for this upcoming Season. According to datamines from Nuka Knights, the theme for the Season 21 SCORE rewards will be focused on fishing, with plenty of new cosmetics and CAMP furnishings.

Among the leaked rewards for Season 21 in Fallout 76, a few of the new CAMP items will be able to be built directly over water without needing to be attached to the ground. More specifically, the buoy, lily pad platforms, and houseboat prefab CAMP items will be able to be built over water. With these three new CAMP items, this could be a game-changer for CAMP building going forward, potentially paving the way for more CAMP items that can be built over water to come in future updates for Fallout 76.

Season 21 Is the Perfect Time to Build a New CAMP in Fallout 76

These new CAMP items that can be built over water will arrive at a convenient time, with Fallout 76’s fishing update anticipated to arrive when Season 21 begins in Summer 2025. Since players will be able to go fishing from the comfort of their CAMP, players might want to build a new CAMP near a source of water, and the new Season 21 SCORE rewards will make it easier than ever before to build directly over water, while also opening up all new locations for CAMPs that previously weren’t viable.

Fallout 76’s Best Builds feature allows players to showcase their CAMP across multiple servers, where other players can then visit the CAMP and show their appreciation by leaving a like.

Fallout 76’s Season 21 Leaks Could Be a Hint of the Franchise’s Future

With players being able to build over water, this makes another map expansion for Fallout 76 seem more likely than ever before. Considering that the playable area in Fallout 76 is currently bordered by the Potomac River to the East and the Ohio River to the West, the upcoming fishing update and the new floating CAMP items in Season 21 could be a sign that players will be able to explore further along one or both of these rivers in the near future.

Outside of Fallout 76, experimenting with CAMP items that can be built over water could also have implications for what Fallout 5’s base-building mechanics could look like. It’s still too early to tell exactly where Fallout 5 could take place, and if it will feature base-building mechanics, but following in Fallout 76’s footsteps by letting players build CAMPs floating over or underwater could allow for some truly unique locations.
