Fallout 4 made building settlements a big part of the franchise moving forward. Many areas in the desolate Commonwealth wasteland can be transformed into fortified towns. You can set up traders, surgeons, and even supply lines so all your settlements remain stocked up.
Screws are a crafting component that can be found in the wasteland. They are important for building objects in your settlements as well as improving your weaponry. Thankfully, screws are one of the easiest junk items to find in Fallout 4. Here is how you can add to your stockpile of screws and keep on building what you want.
Fallout Season 2 Needs To Build On The Show's Most Important Theme
Fallout has a major theme that it can't lose sight of in season 2.
Updated February 24, 2026 by Marc Santos: Screws are one of the most important resources when it comes to crafting a lot of items in Fallout 4, so players will want to collect as many as they can. We've updated this guide to include more details on some of the best spots for getting Screws in Fallout 4 to help anyone who has been struggling with it. We've also included the item ID for Screws in case anyone wants to spawn some in.
Junk Items
Certain items can be scrapped and broken down into parts. Different items will give you differing amounts of resources. Leveling up the Scrapper perk will net you even more components from the items you break down. Office Desk Fans will be the easiest item to find, so be on the lookout for them. These are all the items that you can scavenge for screws and some locations where you can find them.

One of the best ways to get Screws without having to get any of the junk items above is to scrap guns using an upgraded Scrapper perk. Visit any area that's dense with gun-totting bad guys, wipe them all out, and take home all the guns they drop. Wear a suit of power armor so you don't get overencumbered.
Best Places to Get Screws in Fallout 4
- Wilson Atomatoys Corporate HQ might as well be the best place for getting Screws because of all the Giddyup Buttercup parts you can find inside. You can find this place just east of Diamond City.
- Mass Fusion Building has plenty of Desk Fans for you to scrap into Screws. Find this POI by heading north of Goodneighbor.
- Hardware Town is perfect for getting all sorts of materials. This is located southwest of Diamond City, near
- Vault 114 is another great spot for screws thanks to all the Triggermen there. They have a good chance of dropping modified pistols and submachine guns, all of which can be scrapped for a decent amount of Screws. Vault 114 is accessed via Park Street Station, which east of Diamond City and northeast of Swan's Pond.
- Gunners Plaza follows the same logic as Vault 114. The sheer number of Gunners there translates to a large amount of Screws if you scrap all the guns they drop. The plaza is in the southern part of the map, in between Quincy and Vault 95.
