A recent rumor suggests Bethesda’s Fallout 4 will be getting a long-overdue update, bringing significant improvements to the game alongside a new controversial feature. Fallout 4 was released back in 2015 and served as the fourth main game in the post-apocalyptic series. One of the game’s defining features is its Boston setting, known as the Commonwealth, and despite a more recent installment taking the spotlight, the fourth entry remains a classic to most.
Fallout 4 has very much taken a backseat in the past few years while the franchise’s latest entry takes center stage, and Fallout 76 recently received a substantial update for July 2025. Released in 2018 and set in the year 2102 around the titular vault and the Appalachia open world, Fallout 76’s recent patch provided several bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, particularly fixing issues targeting the Ghoul transformation.

YouTuber Teases Fallout 4 Update Is on the Way With Paid Mods
Posted within a YouTube video by JuiceHead, the creator shared with conviction that Fallout 4 was getting a new update. With the main focus being on delivering bug fixes and improved performance in the game’s next-gen version, talk of paid mods being a part of the update was also noted. Bethesda has divided gamers with paid mods, or Creations, before, but they have become a main feature of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Fallout 4 served gamers the perfect getaway, becoming one of the best RPGs where players don’t need to think too much, and the prospect of more content being added to Creations is a debatable prospect for the community.
Lately, Fallout 76 has been the go-to game of the IP, and not just because one Fallout 76 consumable is more appetizing than in Fallout 4. 76 boasts improved online multiplayer functionality, and a better crafting system with more world details, but part of the series’ fan base would love to see a new story DLC be added to Fallout 4 in the rumored update. However, some fans would prefer Bethesda leave the game alone now, since previous updates seemed to do nothing more than break the game for some.
The Fallout franchise has a fruitful future, especially with whispers of Fallout 5 being on the horizon. A separate rumor also teased that multiple Fallout projects were in the works, and most were hopeful that one of these developments was a long-awaited Fallout: New Vegas remake. The popular New Vegas setting will also be making its live-action debut within Amazon’s Fallout series this year, where season 2 will see The Strip brought to life after the location was teased during season 1’s cliffhanger.
