Summary

  • Fallout 4 is getting a new update on May 13, bringing more graphics and performance options for players to enjoy.
  • Bethesda's update aims to further improve the gaming experience.
  • Despite Fallout 4's age, Bethesda continues to show support with fresh updates.

Bethesda has confirmed that a new Fallout 4 update is coming on Monday, May 13. After a long wait, Bethesda finally released the big Fallout 4 next-gen update last month. The update brought native versions of Fallout 4 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles while making some sweeping changes to the game. These changes included improved graphics and performance, as well as some Creation Club content.

The release of the Fallout 4 next-gen update combined with the popular Amazon TV series has fueled renewed interest in the game. Fallout 4's player count is way up, and the game has skyrocketed back to the top of sales charts despite being nearly nine years old at this point. While some may have assumed Bethesda was done updating Fallout 4 after dropping the next-gen update, the company has now confirmed that a new update for the game is actually right around the corner.

Using its Settlements feature, a Fallout 4 player builds an automated ammo factory capable of producing hundreds of bullets in a matter of seconds.

On Monday, May 13, Fallout 4 will receive a brand-new update. Bethesda did not provide specific patch notes for this new Fallout 4 update, but it did say that it will "include new options for graphics and performance settings" in addition to "further fixes and improvements." It sounds like this new update will fix some of the problems that came to light after the Fallout 4 next-gen update was released, but again, specific patch notes are not available.

Fallout 4's Next Update is Coming Soon

When the Fallout 4 next-gen update came out, it quickly became apparent that there was a problem with the game's newly-added Quality mode. When functioning as intended, Quality mode should lower Fallout 4's FPS to 30-40 while maintaining 4K resolution and ultra settings. However, it was discovered that Fallout 4's Quality mode wasn't working like it should. While not outright stated by Bethesda in the tweet announcing the update, it does sound like this problem will be addressed in the May 13 patch.

It will be interesting to see how many more updates Bethesda releases for Fallout 4. Even though the next-gen version is new, the game is still almost nine years old, and Bethesda itself is busy with other projects. Currently, Bethesda is working on major updates for Starfield, including the open world sci-fi RPG's Shattered Space expansion. Not only that, but Bethesda is also working on The Elder Scrolls 6, so fans would likely forgive the company if it decided to move on from Fallout 4 after the more egregious problems have been ironed out.
