Industry insider Jez Corden says Fallout fans shouldn't expect Fallout 3 or New Vegas remasters anytime soon. There's been a lot of movement around the RPG series lately, largely thanks to the success of its Amazon TV show, and rumors about remakes or remasters of some fan-favorite titles have been swirling for a while. While it seems likely that these Fallout games will get new versions, fans may need to wait a while before they get their hands on them.
It's been a bit of a rollercoaster for the Fallout 3 and New Vegas faithful. Many fans were disappointed that Bethesda announced another version of Fallout 4 for Fallout Day 2025 instead of the long-demanded remasters of Fallout: New Vegas or Fallout 3. Despite that letdown, there's been a lot of talk that these games are getting attention, and Todd Howard himself has confirmed there are multiple Fallout projects in the works, leading to speculation about an upcoming release, potentially even a shadow-drop. However, not everyone thinks the much-anticipated remasters are as close as others say.
Fallout: New Vegas Remaster Casually Confirmed By Insider
A reputable gaming insider confirms the much-anticipated Fallout: New Vegas remaster is happening after all with surprisingly minimal fanfare.
Insider Says Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters are Real but Not Coming Soon
Corden doused the growing Fallout 3 and New Vegas remaster flames in a January 20 post on Windows Central, saying they "are not launching imminently," but that they are on the way. Some fans had gotten their hopes up after recent Steam activity seemingly indicated the rumored Fallout remasters were coming soon, but according to Corden, these game file changes have something to do with localization, not an impending shadow-drop. The Windows Central Executive Editor didn't cite any specific sources for these claims, but he has a long history of accurate predictions and insights, so his words carry considerable weight.
While the news may seem disappointing, it may not come as much of a surprise to those tuned in to Corden's recent statements on the series. Earlier this year, the insider said a Fallout 3 remake would "eventually" come out but denied the theory that Bethesda would shadow-drop the game the way it did with Oblivion Remastered. In this most recent post, he also reasserted a previous claim that the countdown timer on the Fallout TV show website doesn't have anything to do with the games. Still, he maintains that both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are, in fact, getting remakes or remasters (Corden uses both terms, so it's unclear which is accurate), just not in the immediate future.
At this point, it's hard to deny that these fan-favorite Fallout titles will get remasters at some point. Apart from Corden, multiple reputable leakers have suggested that remakes are on the way. Even Todd Howard himself has touched on the demand for these Fallout remasters, and while he didn't confirm anything with specificity, his statements seem to tease that there are big announcements in the works. The real question is when these new versions will come out, and while there might have been hope for a quick release timeline, Bethesda's release schedule has proven difficult to nail down.
In his new post, Corden mentioned he's "trying to lock down more detailed timings" for the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters, but doesn't have many specifics to offer at the moment. He does, however, say Fallout 3 will likely get remade before New Vegas, though his tone suggested that timeline may not be set in stone. Corden goes on to explain how Bethesda was caught off guard by Fallout's resurgence and is busy with other games at the moment, which is why fans will likely have to wait a while. That aligns with some earlier statements from Howard, who said the majority of Bethesda devs are working on The Elder Scrolls 6 at the moment, even though the studio does develop multiple projects simultaneously. Considering all this, it seems like Fallout 3 and New Vegas fans will have to sit tight for a bit.
