Factorio: How To Change Weapons

Factorio is a base building and automation game. In fact, it's a pioneer in the genre that has inspired countless other games which focus heavily on automation. However, the game also has a defensive element to it. Waves of enemies will attack the player every now and again, meaning you will need to defend your base from the big bugs that seek to destroy you and your progress.

After you've progressed and automated your base a little, you can set up defenses around the perimeter in the form of gun turrets and walls which will automate the defense part of the equation. Until then, you'll need to deal with your critter infestation the old-fashioned way, guns.

How to Switch Weapons in Factorio

The weapons that the player has equipped can be seen on the bottom left of the screen. There are three weapon slots, meaning the player can cycle between three different guns without needing to open up their inventory. Considering the speed at which the bugs rush at the player, being able to quickly swap between weapons is a must.

There isn't any method of increasing the number of equipment slots other than using mods. The default button for swapping weapons in Factorio is 'C.'

Why Can't I Swap Between Weapons in Factorio?

If you can't swap weapons even though you have two, or more, equipped, then it is likely due to a lack of ammo. The game requires the player to have ammo available separately for each weapon in their equipment slots.

Right-click the ammo you have equipped for your first weapon to pick up half, and place it in the ammo section underneath the second weapon. Once there is sufficient ammo, you'll be able to switch to the new weapon without any issues.

Some weapons only work with certain ammo types, requiring the player to craft them from scratch. When you craft the ammo and place it in your inventory, it will automatically be equipped in the relevant slot.
