A new video has been released by Universal to promote the much-awaited film F9 and look into the history of the Fast and Furious franchise. It has been 20 years since the first film in the car-centric franchise was released, with the remaining movies going on to form a kind of cult fan following. With old footage dating all the way back to 2001, fans will be offered a look into how the Fast Saga began.

The nostalgia-driven video is sure to strike a chord among fans of the series, with the lead stars talking about how the Fast and Furious franchise introduced a “cool world” that they would love to be a part of for a long time. And indeed they have, with the franchise continuing two decades this year with F9. Now that the latest film in the series is all set to release in theaters, with a premiere date in late June, F9's promotional campaign is picking up steam.

Apart from the featurette, the franchise also dropped a video of their latest promotional strategy. F9 is currently being advertised on the tallest building in the world, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. The LED screen, which runs down the entire height of the 828-meter-tall tower, lights up with scenes from the upcoming film taking over the tallest media facade on the planet. While this may seem like a lot to some, fans are loving it, with many sharing their excitement for the Fast and Furious saga in the comments section on Twitter.

Universal's The Fast and Furious franchise has been a major part of the lives of the actors involved, with eight films already released and the 9th installment arriving soon. Though none of the actors have appeared in every Fast and Furious film, some of them have reprised their roles in most of the installments, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster. A line from the featurette that stands out is Diesel stating, “the most important thing in life will always be the people in this room.”

Paul Walker, before his death in 2013, was also a major part of the series. He died in a car accident in California, which hit too close to home considering the entire Fast franchise is about illegal street racing and several ridiculous stunts. Furious 7 was the perfect send-off for Walker’s Brian O'Conner since it looked back at his most memorable moments from the franchise. The film’s original song, “See You Again” by rapper Wiz Khalifa and featuring singer Charlie Puth, was also the perfect tribute to the actor.

F9 is setting the franchise on a path towards its final Fast and Furious trilogy. The upcoming film will have the main characters face off against one of the most dangerous villains they have faced in the franchise, who also happens to be Dom’s brother. Jakob, played by John Cena, is adamant about seeking revenge against Dom, and the film will hopefully offer some insight into their falling out. With the family now involved, The Fast Saga's history is important, especially with Sung Kang’s Han Lue allegedly returning from the dead. Additionally, the Fate of the Furious villain Cipher will also be making a comeback, with Charlize Theron appearing in the trailers looking as good as ever. Justin Lin also marks his return to the franchise as director.

F9 premieres in theaters on June 25, 2021.
