A major update for Evil Dead: The Game has added a battle royale mode named Splatter Royale! This past week Sony announced that Evil Dead: The Game would be offered as part of its PlayStation Plus offerings for February. It seems developer Saber Interactive is looking to capitalize on that extra attention with some new content for the asymmetric horror game. Not only is Splatter Royale! Now available, but so is a new DLC pack for Evil Dead: The Game featuring even more content.

Evil Dead: The Game has had a challenging road since launch. It was released in May 2022 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and received average reviews. While initial sales were high, there have been questions regarding its post-launch success. It's not on Steam, so player totals aren't clear, but viewers on streaming platforms have largely disappeared. A PlayStation Plus launch could bring the game to a new audience, however, especially with a new battle royale mode.

Splatter Royale! Is part of a free update available for all owners of Evil Dead: The Game. Players will be able to select Deadite versions of all the Evil Dead: The Game' s Survivors and Demons, including DLC characters, and battle to be the last player standing. Like in other battle royales, players will loot for weapons that will enable them to defeat other players. The Splatter Royale! Mode will feature just 40 players, however, so it's a somewhat smaller scale than other battle royales.

In addition to the Splatter Royale! Mode's launch, the new update also features a new DLC pack for Evil Dead: The Game players to purchase. The Immortal Power DLC pack costs $9.99 and includes a variety of content. Most prominent is the addition of a new Survivor, Ruby Knowby. Ruby is from the STARZ series Ash vs. Evil Dead and is voiced by Xena star Lucy Lawless.

Other than Ruby, the Immortal Power DLC will also include four cosmetic Outfits. Kelly's "Scourge of Evil" Outfit, Pablo's "Fish n' Chips" Outfit, Ash vs. Evil Dead's "Party Animal" Outfit, and the Puppeteer Demon's "King of the White Frost" Outfit are all part of the bundle. For $9.99, it's a solid deal for Evil Dead: The Game fans.

Where Evil Dead: The Game goes from here is likely entirely dependent on how fans respond to the new DLC and the PlayStation Plus launch. Evil Dead: The Game will be available on both PS4 and PS5 for all PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium members. Since Splatter Royale! Is out now, that means the battle royale will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers when the game unlocks. If the new wave of players and the extra mode leads to a lot of success, then Evil Dead: The Game should have a lot to look forward to in 2023.

Evil Dead: The Game is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is in development.
