The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are the first and arguably the most popular iteration of the superhero franchise, Power Rangers. The popular series is actually an American adaptation of the Japanese franchise Super Sentai, but has largely become its own entity. Fans all over the world know the Mighty Morphin Rangers as the first heroes chosen by Zordon to carry out his will and protect the Morphin Grid. Each of the members is known for their distinct color, iconic power-ups, and incredible Zords.

There were originally five members of the Mighty Morphin team, starting with Jason Lee Scott, Kimberly Ann Hart, Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan, and Billy Cranston. A sixth Ranger was added to the team after Tommy Oliver manages to break free of Rita Repulsa's influence and later becomes the Mighty Morphin Ranger's leader as the White Ranger. At the same time, Scott, Taylor, and Kwan are replaced by Rocky DeSantos, Adam Park, and Aisha Campbell, respectively, after the original members leave to attend an International Peace Summit. Kimberly Ann Hart was also later replaced by Katherine Hillard after she chose to focus on her gymnastics career full-time. Ultimately, each of the Ranger's is uniquely important and sets a precedent for what makes the franchise so special overall.

Jason Lee Scott | Mighty Morphin Red Ranger (I)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, "Day of the Dumpster"

Age

14

Height

5'10"

Main Weapon

The Power Sword

Jason Lee Scott is the original Red Ranger and the one many remember in the position. He is an expert martial artist and sometimes prefers to challenge his opponents, unmorphed. As the Mighty Morphin Red Ranger, he often employs the Power Sword to great effect. It is a nearly unbreakable blade capable of creating slashes of energy and cutting through almost anything. Scott serves as the Mighty Morphin Red Ranger from the very beginning until being replaced by Rocky DeSantos in the second season of the show after being invited to a Peace Conference in Switzerland. Jason is the epidemy of the strong, silent type and prefers to let his fists do the talking for him, but that does not get in the way of his equally large sense of empathy and drive to do the right thing.

Red Ranger Forms

  • Armored Red Ranger

Scott's only transformation as the Red Ranger is the Armored Red Ranger form. He gains this ability after Tommy Oliver loses his Green Ranger Powers and uses them to gain a significant power boost. In addition to providing a basic boost, Jason can also use the Dragon Dagger and fan-favorite Dragonzord while employing the Dragon Shield-based transformation. Scott may only gain these powers after Tommy loses them, but many still associate them with his larger character and arc.

Red Ranger Zords

  • Tyrannosarus Dinozord
  • The Dragonzord
  • Titanus
  • Red Dragon Thunderzord

In Jason's time, the Red Mighty Morphin Ranger primarily uses Tyrannosaurus Dinozord. It is the original T-Rex-based Zord and remains one of the most popular designs. The beast might be slow in comparison to other Zords, but is powerful enough to fight many significant battles alone. Once the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord is retired, the Zord becomes the Red Dragon Thunderzord, which is equally if not more powerful. Scott can also call on Titanus, which is a giant autonomous Brachiosaurus-type CarrierZord that holds the other Zords, but can also fight remotely.

Robert "Rocky" DeSantos | Mighty Morphin Red Ranger (II)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2, Episode 22, "The Ninja Encounter, Part 1"

Age

15

Height

5'8"

Main Weapon

The Power Sword

Rocky DeSantos is the second Mighty Morphin Red Ranger who takes over for Jason Lee Scott after his retirement from the team. He is a far less-serious and more carefree version of the Ranger who doesn't mind becoming the White Rangers' second-in-command. Like Scott, his weapon of choice is The Power Sword, but he is known for utilizing his Blade Blaster far more than his previous counterpart. Although DeSantos received a lot of flack upon his enlistment into the Red Ranger role, he has since won the heart of his detractors. However, many of Rocky's greatest feats come in later iterations of the franchise.

Red Ranger Forms

  • Red Ninja Ranger
  • Red Metallic Armor

Unlike Jason, Rocky remains on the team long enough to receive two of the Mighty Morphin Ranger's most significant Power-Boosts. Relatively quickly after his career begins, he receives the Red Ninja Ranger powers, which are essentially a midpoint between the full Ranger Powers and being completely unmorphed. DeSantos also obtains the Red Metallic Armor after Master Vile made his foot soldiers significantly stronger. The armor provides a significant buff to the Ranger's defense, but is almost unnoticeable aside from a slight glittery coating.

Red Ranger Zords

  • Red Dragon Thunderzord
  • Red Ape Ninjazord
  • Red Shogunzord

As the second Mighty Morphin Red Ranger, Rocky mainly employs the Red Dragon Thunderzord, until it is destroyed by Rito Revolto in the second season of the series. When Rocky obtained his Ninja Ranger Powers, he would also gain acces to the Red Ape Ninjazord, which would become his de facto ride for the rest of the show. The Red Ape Ninjazord is best known for having two separate forms, one of which is basically a psuedo-Megazord. DeSantos might be Tommy's second-in-command, but many fans believe his later Zords are significantly cooler than his leader's.

Zachary "Zack" Taylor | Mighty Morphin Black Ranger (I)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, "Day of the Dumpster"

Age

14

Height

5'8"

Main Weapon

The Power Axe

Zachary "Zack" Taylor is a gifted dancer and martial artist who combines both his hobbies to create a new devastating martial art. He originally served as Jason Lee Scott's second-in-command, until Tommy Oliver joins the team. Even then, Taylor remains a dedicated Ranger and is often seen as one of the most powerful combatants on the Mighty Morphin team before deciding to join fellow Rangers Jason Lee Scott and Trini Kwan to the Switzerland Peace Convention. Taylor's weapon of choice is the Power Axe, which Zordon even describes as being harder than a diamond. He might never serve as the team's leader, but that doesn't mean the Rangers don't turn to his guidance from time to time.

Black Ranger Forms

  • Armored Black Ranger

Like the original Red Ranger, Zack has also shown the ability to use the Armored Ranger form. Zack only does so in Season 1, Episode 60, "An Oyster Stew", and never uses the Dragonzord. However, Scott's former second-in-command does employ the Dragon dagger just as the Red Ranger normally does when donning the Dragon shield. Sadly, Taylor would never get a chance to fully utilize the Dragon Shield before retiring from the team.

Power Rangers: 10 Best Black Rangers, Ranked

The Black Rangers typically serve as the Red Rangers' second-in-command and are often one of the most popular rangers of any given series.

Black Ranger Zords

  • Mastodon Dinozord
  • Lion Thunderzord

As the original Mighty Morphin Black Ranger, Zack primarily employs the Mastodon Dinozord. He would switch to the Lion Thunderzord after the Mastodon is decommissioned, but it remains his most iconic vehicle. Neither of his rides are particularly fast, but his Mastadon Dinozord is considered amongst the strongest of the early Zords. Taylor isn't primarily remembered as a competent Zord pilot, but many of the Ranger's most significant battles are only won through his influence.

Adam Park | Mighty Morphin Black Ranger (II)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2, Episode 22, "The Ninja Encounter, Part 1"

Age

15

Height

5'8"

Main Weapon

The Power Axe

Adam Park takes over for Zack Taylor after his departure from the team, and is decidedly less-popular than the original. That said, Park brings a lot of heart to the team and honors Taylor's legacy several times over. He even returns in his Mighty Morphin form to help the Overdrive Rangers in a later adaptation in the beloved franchise. Park primarily uses The Power Axe, like his more popular predecessor, but is also known for employing The Power Blaster for long distance encounters.

Black Ranger Forms

  • Black Ninja Ranger
  • Black Metallic Armor

In tandem with the other second-generation Mighty Morphin Rangers, Park can employ both the Black Ninja Ranger mode and the Black Metallic Armor. Although the Metallic Armor is rarely used, the Ninja Ranger Modes become a staple of the latter seasons. They are also a great indictor of the direction that the franchise intended to head with future generations. Moreover, even though the Ninja Ranger modes are typically highly criticized, Rangers', like Park, make superb use of them.

Black Ranger Zords

  • Lion Thunderzord
  • Black Frog Ninjazord
  • Black Shogunzord

As the second Mighty Morphin Black Ranger, Park starts his career using the Lion Thunderzord. However, after the Zords are destroyed, Park finds himself employing the Black Frog Ninjazord along with its Black Shogunzord counterpart. His Zords have some of the greatest mobility in the latter series and contain some equally devastating weapons. Park regularly employs the Black Shogunzord's bow and arrow to incredible effect. There's little doubt why Zack Taylor chose him to carry on the legacy.

Trini Kwan | Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger (I)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, "Day of the Dumpster"

Age

16

Height

5'3"

Main Weapon

The Power Daggers

Trini Kwan is the original Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger and one of the most important figures in the early series. She is soft-spoken, but she cares deeply about her friends and the environment. Even though she is apparently more introverted than Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, Kwan uses the Power Daggers to end a variety of comparable villains. While they are called daggers within the franchise, they are shaped more like Sai and Trini uses them as such. She might not be the most memorable of the original Rangers, but that doesn't mean she isn't without a profound legacy. However, she is the only Mighty Morphin Ranger without a transformation.

Yellow Ranger Zords

  • Sabertooth Tiger Dinozord
  • Griffin Thunderzord

Kwan's two main Zords in the series are the Sabertooth Tiger Dinozord and the Griffin Thunderzord. The Griffin Thunderzord is certainly powerful, but Trini's character is forever associated with the Sabertooth Tiger. She possesses two of the most powerful Zords in the early series and often proves she is capable at piloting them. She might be more serious than the other rangers, but there is clearly strength drawn from that silence.

Aisha Campbell | Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger (II)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2, Episode 22, "The Ninja Encounter, Part 1"

Age

15

Height

5'1"

Main Weapon

The Power Daggers

Aisha Campbell is the replacement Mighty Morphin Ranger who takes over for Trini after she leaves for Switzerland with Jason Lee Scott and Zack Taylor. Her primary trait is caring for the environment above all else. Campbell even continues to upkeep the Yellow Ranger role after the peace talks have concluded. Although her personality is completely different than her predecessor, she uses the Power Daggers just as much.

Yellow Ranger Forms

  • Yellow Ninja Ranger
  • Yellow Metallic Armor

Unlike Trini Kwan, Campbell actually has two distinct transformations. Campbell can activate her Yellow Ninja Ranger powers in addition to the other second-phase of Mighty Morphin Rangers. She also has access to the formidable Yellow Metallic Armor, which largely prevents her from harm in the later series, at least from Tengas. Aisha might not be as popular as Kwan, but she is arguably more powerful.

Yellow Ranger Zords

  • Griffin Thunderzord
  • Yellow Bear Ninjazord
  • Yellow Shogunzord

Cambpell employs three unique Zords during her time as a Ranger. She obviously spends some time using the Griffin Thunderzord, but switches to the Yellow Bear Ninjazord once the Mighty Morphin Rangers briefly lose their powers. The Yellow Bear Ninjazord is easily among the most popular of the Ninjazords and stands a testament to the popularity the character could have received. All in all, even though Campbell's arsenal is greater than Trini's she never reaches the same heights.

Kimberly "Kim" Ann Hart | Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger (I)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, "Day of the Dumpster"

Age

15

Height

5'2"

Main Weapon

The Power Bow

Kimberly "Kim" Ann Hart is the heart of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team, the Pink Ranger, and a gymnastics prodigy. In combat, she regularly employs the Power Bow for intense long-distance attacks. She maintains a longer tenure than some of the original Rangers, but eventually leaves to pursue her passion for gymnastics. Hart's departure from the series is sad, but it makes way for one of the most popular Pink Rangers of all time.

Pink Ranger Forms

  • Pink Ninja Ranger

Kim only has access to the Pink Ninja Ranger form, due to her unique tenure on the show. She regularly employs her Ninja form until her retirement from the Rangers and later replacement. It provides a significant boost to her martial arts abilities and allows her to duel opponents she never could have fought before.

Pink Ranger Zords

  • Pterodactyl Dinozord
  • Firebird Thunderzord
  • Pink Crane Ninjazord
  • White Shogunzord

Hart has some of the widest variety of Zords in the original series, but all of them are virtually the same. The Pterodactyl Dinozord, Firebird Thunderzord, and Pink Crane Ninjazord are all high-speed aerial Zords capable of intense dogfight-type combat. Her only unique Zord is the White Shogunzord which she co-pilots with Tommy Oliver. This is incredibly significant since it is the first instance of a Zord being piloted by more than one individual at a time, outside a Megazord.

Katherine "Kat" Hillard | Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger (II)

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 3, Episode 17, "A Ranger Catastrophe, Part 1"

Age

16

Height

5'8"

Main Weapon

The Blade Blaster

Kim Hart was eventually replaced by Katherine "Kat" Hillard after Rita Repulsa made an active effort to end Hart's Ranger tenure. The villain would succeed, but would create a more powerful obstacle in her stead. Kat might not make any significant plays as the MIghty Morphin Pink Ranger, but she becomes one of the longest serving Pink Rangers in the franchise's history.

Pink Ranger Forms

  • Pink Ninja Ranger
  • Pink Metallic Armor

"Kat" can utilize two unique forms. She has access to the Pink Ninja Ranger form and the Pink Metallic Armor. Both are great abilities that serve drastically different uses. The Pink Ninja Ranger form allows Kat to move quickly while providing an extra power-up. The Metallic Armor is solely about defense. It might only look like a sparkly visage, but it is one of the greatest defensive buffs in the early series.

Pink Ranger Zords

  • Pink Crane Ninjazord
  • White Shogunzord

Since she joined the Mighty Morphin Rangers toward the end of the iteration, she only has access to the Pink Crane Ninjazord and the White Shogunzord. She carries on Kim's aerial-based motiff, but is an arguably better pilot. She is also one of the best marksmen on the Mighty Morphin Rangers' team.

Billy Cranston | Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 1, "Day of the Dumpster"

Age

15

Height

5'8"

Main Weapon

The Power Lance

Billy Cranston is without a doubt the smartest Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger and maybe the smartest Ranger in the franchise's history. He even possesses the intelligence to actively tinker and tamper with technology reliant on the Morphin grid. His main weapon of choice is The Power Lance, although some fans misremember him using the Dino Shield from the Dino Thunder Power Rangers iteration. Nonetheless, even though Cranston prefers brains to brawn, that doesn't stop him from being a powerhouse in battle.

Blue Ranger Forms

  • Blue Ninja Ranger
  • Blue Metallic Armor
  • Armored Blue Ranger

Cranston is one of the few Rangers with access to every single significant Mighty Morphin Power Up. He dons the Dragon shield in the Armored Blue Ranger mode. He gains the Blue Ninja Ranger powers after the power coins are destroyed and is quintessential in the Blue Metallic Armor's creation. Ultimately, without Billy, many of the Rangers wouldn't have discovered how to make the most out of their various forms and powers.

Blue Ranger Zords

  • Triceratops Dinozord
  • Unicord Thunderzord
  • Blue Wolf Ninjazord
  • Blue Shogunzord

As the only Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger, Cranston has access to a wide variety of different Zords. He mainly pilots the Triceratops Dinozord, which is renowned for its defense. However, he swtiches to the Blue Wolf Ninjazord later which is known for its impressive agility along with its Blue Shogunzord form. Cranston also employs the Unicorn Thunderzord. But it is by far his most forgotten Zord.

Tommy Oliver | Mighty Morphin Green Ranger | Mighty Morphin White Ranger

Debuted in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1, Episode 17, "Green Within Evil, Part 1"

Age

14

Height

5'11"

Main Weapon

The Dragon Dagger & Saba

Tommy Oliver is the sixth original Mighty Morphin Ranger, and only joins the team after being freed from Rita Repulsa's influence. As the Green Ranger, he uses the popular Dragon Dagger to fight and summon his iconic vehicle. He would temporarily retire after losing his Green Ranger powers, but would return as the White Mighty Morphin Ranger relatively quickly. Once he became the White Ranger, he would even replace Jason Lee Scott as the team's leader and begin using the sentient sabre Saba.

Green & White Ranger Forms

  • Armored Ranger Mode
  • White Ninja Ranger Mode
  • White Metallic Armor

Tommy Oliver's main appearance as the Green Ranger is actually considered a Power-Up. Since he can transfer and lose the Dragon Shield, many consider it a boost that Tommy always has active. When he becomes the White Ranger, he gains access to the other popular Mighty Morphin Power-Ups, including the White Ninja Ranger Mode and the White Metallic armor.

Green & White Ranger Zords

  • The Dragonzord
  • The Tigerzord
  • White Ninja Falconzord
  • White Shogunzord

Oliver has three main Zords that he pilots throughout the series. As the Green Ranger, he normally utilizes the iconic Dragonzord. Once he loses his powers and becomes the White Ranger, he uses the Tigerzord until once again losing his powers. Then Tommy begins using the White Ninja Falconzord and its White Shogonzord counterpart. All of his Zords are incredibly powerful, but the original Dragonzord remains the most iconic and powerful in the entire franchise.
