Everspace 2 gives players a vast world to explore and a wide variety of ships to use when exploring said world. Initially, players only have access to one ship, which they nab during their escape from imprisonment at the beginning of the game, but there are far more ships to fly in the game.
Everspace 2 breaks its ships down into several broad categories: Light, Medium, and Heavy. These are further broken down into three subcategories each, with Light ships breaking down into Scout, Vanguard, and Stinger. Medium Ships break down further into Interceptor, Sentinel, and Striker, while Heavy Ships can be broken down into Gunship, Bomber, and Vindicator categories. This guide will explain how players can gain access to new ships.
How to Get New Ships in Everspace 2
Everspace 2 players hoping to acquire a new ship will first need to complete several sections of the main story. Specifically, they must complete all the main story missions up until Spares and Scrap. This chapter unlocks the ability to travel to Nephtys Plains, where the game's first ship dealer can be found. (Luckily, they're also someone players are required to talk to in order to progress the main story).
While more ship dealers become available further into the game, this is the first opportunity players have to purchase new ships and try out some of the new strategies made available by them.
After players gain access to Tareen and are able to unlock the Ship Dealers Perks from them, the shop near Homebase called "The Flying Dutchess" will begin stocking ships, allowing players to more easily acquire new ships without the need to travel further afield. The types of ships made available for a player to purchase from any given Ship Dealer are determined by the player's level, with higher-tier ships only becoming available once the player's level is sufficiently high.
Ship Availability
- Tier I (Level 1)
- Tier I+ (Level 1)
- Tier II (Level 6)
- Tier II+ (Level 9)
- Tier III (Level 13)
- Tier III+ (Level 17)
- Tier IV (Requires the Ship Dealers Perk)
With these limitations in mind, players should be able to track down new ships fairly easily once they have access to a Ship Dealer. Which type of ship players choose to make use of will be heavily dependent on their personal playstyle, with each ship type specializing in different areas and offering different benefits and drawbacks.
Everspace 2 is available for PC and is coming soon to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
