The Ashpeak Drake is the first large monster players encounter in Eternal Strands, and while the one in the prologue isn't really meant to be beaten, the ones that appear in following areas within The Veil can be hunted like every other big beast in the game.

Fighting an Ashpeak Drake may seem intimidating at first, but much like the Ark of the Stricken Earth in Eternal Strands, it's actually quite easy to take down, provided you know what to do with it. Here's how to beat this monster and get the Drake's Breath Strand along the way.

Eternal Strands - Launch Trailer

Eternal Strands is a third-person action-adventure game from Yellow Brick Games. Take a look at the launch trailer here.

Eternal Strands Ashpeak Drake Boss

You can encounter the second Ashpeak Drake in Dredger's Mire, though other areas in the game might have this boss too, so make sure to check the info window before teleporting out of the Weaveband's base.

Ashpeak Drakes deal Physical and Fire damage. Most of their attacks can be blocked, but what you should look out for most is their ability to light things on fire. When it starts spewing streams of flame, run away and try to lure it to a different area.

Fire becomes more dangerous during Drought weather conditions. Objects and the environment will ignite more easily, and the flames will spread more rapidly over a wider area. Avoid fighting Fire-based enemies during Droughts.

The best way to fight Ashpeak Drakes is to climb them. You can destroy body parts like the horns, spines, wings, and tail if you concentrate your hits on them, hampering the drake and potentially netting you some rare materials like Drake Scales. More importantly, climbing onto a drake means you'll be able to damage it even while it's flying.

.

You'll know if one of the drake's body parts is damaged when cracks appear on them. The wings also become visibly frayed and destroyed once they take enough damage. As much as possible, aim for the horns, as they seem to have the best chance of dropping rare materials.

You can use the physics system in Eternal Strands as a weapon. Throw large objects at the drake to deal big damage, and use Ice Wall to block its mouth, keeping it from using fire attacks.

How to Get the Drake's Breath Strand

Beating an Ashpeak Drake for the first time will reward you with the Drake's Breath Strand, which is basically a magical ability that lets you conjure flames to burn things in a cone in front of you. If you want to upgrade this Strand, you'll need to fight an Ashpeak Drake again.

However, simply killing another drake won't do. Instead, you need to Harvest a Locus Point from it. To do this, fight an Ashpeak Drake as you would normally. Eventually, a bright spot will appear on its back. Climb the drake, reach the glowing spot, then press the button on your screen to start harvesting. The drake will die at the end of this process, and you'll get another Drake's Breath Strand.

The glowing Harvest spot seems to appear only when the drake is flying, so make sure to climb onto it before it takes off.
