If you find a weapon while exploring various buildings, equipping it won't be difficult. You simply need to drag the item you found into the weapon slot of one of your survivors in the Squad menu. If this fighter already has a weapon, then it will be replaced.
However, when you bring any items to your HQ or Warehouse, they automatically go into the storage, and guns are no exception. During combat, you want to keep your survivors inside buildings to make them harder to reach. If the squad is inside a building with a warehouse, it can access the ammunition and weapons you put there earlier.

- Choose the squad you want to give the weapon to.
