Developed by Alameda, California-based AutoAttack Games, Legion TD 2 is a strategy game that combines tower defense gameplay with auto battler elements. Players are tasked with defending their king from waves of incoming enemies and can choose from eight unique factions—the titular legions, to use the game's jargon—featuring over 100 units combined. Legion TD 2 was originally released for PC and Mac in October 2021. It peaked at over 5,800 concurrent players on Steam and has generally been praised for its engaging gameplay loop and no-nonsense multiplayer.

A few months ahead of its fourth anniversary, Legion TD 2 has been announced as the next Epic Games Store freebie. PC gamers will be able to claim it beginning next Thursday, July 24, at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 5pm CET. This will be the first tower defense game that the Epic Games Store has given away since early 2025, when Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee and the widely celebrated Bloons TD 6 were given away over nearly a month-long period ending February 20, albeit only for mobile users.

Legion TD 2 never gained significant traction among professional critics, leaving few data points for reporting meaningful review score averages. However, its player reception has been largely favorable, as underlined by its "Very Positive" user reviews on Steam, based on over 11,350 impressions. Some fans of the genre nowadays tout Legion TD 2 as one of the best modern tower defense games on PC.
Since its late 2021 release, Legion TD 2 has seen numerous discounts, dropping as low as $8.74. However, it has never before been given away on any platform. The closest it came to being free was in July 2022, when it was offered as part of the monthly Humble Choice rotation.
While waiting for the Legion TD 2 giveaway, Epic Games Store users can pick up Sid Meier's Civilization 6, which became free to claim on July 17. While the iconic 4X strategy game was already given away via EGS back in May 2020, that was only the base game. This time around, Epic is offering the $79.99 Platinum Edition, which includes the Gathering Storm and Rise and Fall expansions, together with six DLC scenario packs.
