It's hard to find a better offering of regular free games anywhere else other than the Epic Games Store. What originally began as a way to giveaway titles for the holidays in 2018 has blossomed into a wonderful weekly promotion that highlights all sorts of unique games that players might have missed over the years. While typically indie games are given the spotlight, rare occasions lead to AAA games being given away at steep discounts.

2025 has been a very intriguing year for regular visitors and newer free games page patrons alike. It's seen a brand-new game, Deliver At All Costs, given away at no charge, and development studio Amanita Design has had a fair number of its games given away in recent months. The holiday-themed giveaways have been absent over the last several months as well. At the very least, Epic Games Store fans can look forward to picking up Monument Valley and The Battle of Polytopia for free on September 4.

Epic Games Store Free Game Monument Valley Explained

Monument Valley 3 2

Monument Valley's Impact Speaks Louder Than Its Humble Beginnings

Monument Valley is a puzzle game designed to help players calm down at the end of the day while also telling an important story about forgiveness. This optical illusion puzzle game started as an app, but has evolved into a series that saw Monument Valley 3 release last year. The story of the silent princess Ida that the game tells, as well as its crafty and intuitive puzzles, have earned Monument Valley high honors, including being on Time Magazine's best video games list.

Of course, Monument Valley's history as an app game means that it has a relatively short run time. Players have reported that the game takes them roughly two hours to beat, making this free Epic Games Store game great to kill some time with. Some fans have remarked that Monument Valley might not feel as immersive with mouse controls over touch, but new players may not notice the difference. If some gamers have yet to check out Monument Valley, this offer is a great time to find out why this small game has resonated with so many people.

Epic Games Store Free Game The Battle of Polytopia Explained

A mpa from The Battle of Polytopia

The turn-based strategy genre makes a return to the Epic Games Store free games page with The Battle of Polytopia, another civilization map-control title similar to previous freebie games like Civilization 6 and Humankind. Unlike the games that were given away before it, The Battle of Polytopia uses a low polygon art style to inject humor into the genre. Interestingly, Monument Valley and The Battle of Polytopia are similar in that they were both built for mobile first. Regardless of Polytopia's mobile beginnings, though, it's been said to be one of the best entry titles for strategy games.

Polytopia was released back in 2020, but it's still receiving updates to this day. The frequent updates, and how it simplifies the genre for newcomers, makes Polytopia a great recommendation for those who picked up Civ 6 or Humankind and found themselves at a loss with what it offers. On top of that, Polytopia has been praised for its shorter game than other strategy game options out there, making it easier to start at any point.

Players who have only heard of The Battle of Polytopia and Monument Valley in passing might see these two titles on the Epic Games Store free game page and feel as if there wasn't anything too interesting to grab. However, the exact opposite is true, given what these two games offer beyond the surface. If users are interested, they should make sure to snag these two titles when they go live on September 4 before the next set of titles rotate in on the following Thursday at 10 AM CT sharp.
