Gamers are running out of time to claim the latest free titles on offer from Epic Games Store: Strange Horticulture and Kamaeru. Since it first went live in December 2018, the online video game storefront has given away a free game or two, at first every two weeks and later on a weekly basis. Initially, this was intended to be a temporary marketing move to entice gamers to the newly launched digital marketplace, but Epic Games Store has so far not done away with the generous offer.
The next batch of games to claim for free will be 2009’s Machinarium and 2023’s Make Way. The former is an award-winning adventure about a robot on a mission to save his girlfriend. Amanita Design is the developer behind the Samorost series and Botanicula, and has earned a reputation for creating unique and aesthetically memorable games. Make Way by Ice Beam is a zany multiplayer racing game where players must first build the tracks they'll wreak havoc on, complete with obstacles, corkscrews, and power-ups. These two titles will become available to claim for free from the Epic Games Store on August 28 at 8 AM PST.
Epic Games Store: A Comprehensive List Of Every Free Game It's Had To Date
Here's a list of all the games that have been made free on the Epic Games Store. You have until January 15 to get the current free game.
Epic Games Store’s Free Titles Change on August 28
That means there is only a short time left to grab the two titles that became available to claim for free from Epic Games Store on August 21. The first, Strange Horticulture, is a mystery puzzle game developed by Bad Viking that was released in 2022. In this award-winning title, players are the owner of a plant store in the somewhat odd town of Undermere. In addition to welcoming a unique lineup of customers, they will discover and catalog a wide range of strange plants while unraveling a local “occult mystery.” Strange Horticulture has an 84 average score on OpenCritic and a 4.6 user rating on EGS.
Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge, developed by Humble Reeds and released in 2024, is another opportunity for players to collect and catalog things, but frogs this time. In this cozy game, rather than a plant shop, players are tasked with creating a thriving sanctuary by breeding, raising, and caring for up to 500 different frogs. They can plant crops and dig ponds to recreate natural habitats while also doing a bit of decorating. Kamaeru is currently sitting at a 71 average on OpenCritic and has a 4.2 user rating on the Epic Games Store.
Machinarium and Make Way will be the last free titles offered by the Epic Games Store in August, rounding out an exciting month for gamers. The eight games given away this month had players solving puzzles, dispatching rescue services, delivering packages with friends, and leading a biker gang across the country. And it will only be a short wait until EGS reveals the first free games coming in September.
