Two free games appearing on the Epic Games Store on July 3 have been leaked online: Figment and Backpack Hero. Launched on December 6, 2018, the Epic Games Store began its weekly giveaways just a week later, offering 2018's underwater survival horror game Subnautica from December 12 to December 27 in the hopes of attracting new users to the alternative launcher.

The free game currently listed on the Epic Games store is The Operator, which will be available until Thursday, June 26 at 10:00 AM CT. After that, players can pick up Sable for free on the Epic Games Store from June 26 to July 3. Sable is a visually unique adventure game that invites players to explore a vast open world scattered with the remnants of ancient civilizations. As they journey through this mysterious landscape, players will solve puzzles, tackle platforming challenges, and upgrade their hoverbike to progress further, all while enjoying an original soundtrack by American indie pop band Japanese Breakfast.

Epic Games Store is Removing a Game from Players' Libraries

New reports indicate that the Epic Games Store is removing one game that some players may already have in their game library.

According to two separate posts by Reddit user MeguminShiro, 2017's Figment and 2023's Backpack Hero will both be free on the Epic Games Store from July 3 to July 10. Figment is a stylish action-adventure puzzle game from indie developer Bedtime Digital Games. Players join grumpy old man Dusty and his cheery friend Piper on an adventure to retrieve Dusty's scrapbook from the nightmare that stole it. Figment has been listed as a free game on the Epic Games Store at least once before back in 2020, and it looks like players will have another chance to add it to their libraries at the beginning of July.

Figment and Backpack Hero Will Be Free on Epic in July

Indie developer Jaspel's Backpack Hero is a self-described inventory management game starring a cast of anthropomorphic animals as they fight various enemies and organize their packs on a dungeon-crawling adventure. Despite its charming pixel-art style, learning how to beat Backpack Hero can be a daunting task for new players considering its unique inventory-centric mechanics and difficult enemies.

The Epic Games Store has consistently provided gamers with a variety of games completely free for almost seven years. As of this writing, the Epic Games Store has given away over 500 games, from little-known indie darlings to triple-a games like Grand Theft Auto 5. Although many die-hard fans swear by Valve's more ubiquitous Steam as their launcher of choice, the Epic Games Store has provided a solid alternative for patient gamers on a budget.
