Keen Games' "dream features" for Enshrouded include expanded interaction options for players and NPCs, with the developer firmly committed to implementing such improvements in the near future. This bit of insight was shared as part of a recent AMA, which also saw representatives of the German studio share some new information about their future plans for Enshrouded.

The PC version of Enshrouded launched in Steam Early Access in late January 2024. The survival action RPG peaked at over 160,000 concurrent players on Valve's storefront shortly afterward, and is still being played by tens of thousands of people on a daily basis 11 months later.

With the game's first anniversary fast approaching, Keen Games has recently hosted a Reddit AMA with some of its developers. This yielded a variety of insights into the ARPG, including what some members of the studio's level design team consider to be their "dream features." One developer, Maracujahaha, expressed excitement about the prospect of NPCs interacting with each other—a feature the Enshrouded team hasn’t yet implemented but plans to include in the future. Maracujahaha also shared that the entire design team is eager for "crazy weather" and expanded emergent gameplay, including features like movable objects and the ability to set traps in the world.

'More Interaction Possibilities' Are Coming to Enshrouded

The sentiment was echoed by another member of the game's design team, Reddit user TopCat, who said they're dreaming about "water, traps, moving things, [and] new ways for traversal." Some such features were already implemented in the Enshrouded 0.7.4.0 update, which rolled out in early November 2024 and introduced a new mountain biome containing the Ice terrain material and Upstreams, an environmental phenomenon that pushes players upward while gliding. Nevertheless, neither of those things are yet used to their "full potential," TopCat said, adding that there will be more to come. On a similar note, the same developer promised that Enshrouded will offer "more interaction possibilities" in the future.

Enshrouded's Success Surpassed Keen Games' Expectations

The December 18 AMA also saw Keen Games reveal that the success of Enshrouded surpassed its expectations. While a company representative acknowledged that the studio was obviously hoping the game would do well, the developer's internal sales target for the early access period was much lower than what the survival ARPG ended up achieving. Keen Games last said that Enshrouded surpassed three million sales back in early August 2024, six and a half months following its launch. The developer isn't resting on its laurels but using this newfound success to expand its team and deliver a "bigger level of polish," a studio representative wrote.

The game's lifetime sales tally is bound to be boosted once its console ports arrive. Enshrouded was previously confirmed for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with these versions currently being expected to debut sometime in 2025, after the survival RPG leaves early access.
