Despite all its positives, Enotria: The Last Song can seem very overwhelming at the start for new players. There seem to be a dozen things to keep track of, Italian nomenclature to understand, and a convoluted, looping world to keep track of; it can be easy to lose sight of what’s important: upgrading weapons and abilities.
Enotria: The Last Song - All Status Effects, Explained
There are four status effects in Enotria: The Last Song and understanding the mechanic of each one will help immensely in battles.
Enotria: The Last Song lets players upgrade their weapons, Masks, as well as Mask Lines, though not right out the gate. They will first need to reach a specific location in order to unlock the ability to upgrade their equipment. Here’s the breakdown.
How to Upgrade Equipment in Enotria: The Last Song
Players can upgrade equipment at the Anvil, a key location found next to major Corda Risonante (fast travel rest points). It is descriptively named ‘Equipment Upgrade’ when hovered over. The very first Anvil in Enotria can be found in Quinta Lower Commons, in the city just past the bridge with the Reality Rift.
There are three types of equipment that can be upgraded in Enotria: The Last Song.
- Weapons
- Masks
- Mask Lines
All three types of upgrades can be done using the same Anvil. Simply switch inside the upgrade menu to cycle between them.
How to Upgrade Weapons
Weapons in Enotria: The Last Song can be upgraded using Efestite (Smithing Stones) or Unraveled Efestite (Somber Smithing Stone) and Memoria (Runes). Typically, Efestite is used to upgrade weapons without a border or with a blue border. Unraveled Efestite is used to upgrade weapons with a purple border.
There are multiple tiers of Efestite and Unraveled Efestite, with higher tiers being required to upgrade higher-tier equipment. They go from
Efestite Fragment to Efestite Shard to
Efestite Nugget, and so on. The same formula holds true for Unraveled Efestite as well.
How to Upgrade Masks
Masks in Enotria: The Last Song can be upgraded using
Broken Maiolica or
Unraveled Broken Maiolica and Memoria. Rarer Masks, like
Curtis's Mask, require Unraveled Broken Maiolica, whereas common Masks, like the
Mask of Change, require Broken Maiolica for upgrades.
How to Upgrade Mask Lines
Mask Lines in Enotria: The Last Song can be upgraded using
Shred of the Canovaccio and Memoria.
Upgrading a Mask Line not only increases its base damage but also the rate at which it charges, making upgrades with ‘Presto’ charge even faster.

Collecting all Masks in Enotria: The Last Song may be time-consuming but it opens up many possibilities for more builds.
How to Refund Equipment Upgrades in Enotria: The Last Song
An incredible quality-of-life feature in Enotria: The Last Song is the ability to refund all equipment upgrades and recoup some of the cost spent upgrading them. To refund equipment upgrades, select an upgraded weapon, mask, or mask line in the Equipment Upgrade menu and press the Refund hotkey that’s displayed at the bottom, right next to Upgrade.
Refunds return all upgrade materials but not the Memoria. This means if you spent 6 Unraveled Efestite Fragments to level a Longsword up from +2 to +3, you will receive all 6 Unraveled Efestite Fragments back. However, the 1200 Memoria you spent on the upgrade will not be refunded.
Refunds are completely free.
Refunds decrease weapon upgrade level one at a time. So, when refunded, a +8 sword will go to +7. It’s possible to refund it back to +0 by repeating the process.
