A recent map details all of the areas that players can explore in the online role-playing game The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). The map features most of the regions in Tamriel, including numerous provinces featured throughout The Elder Scrolls franchise and the ESO DLCs.
The Elder Scrolls is a popular series of role-playing games developed by Bethesda Softworks. The franchise is set in the fictional world of Tamriel and is known for its open-world gameplay mechanics and engaging quest lines. Due to its open-world concept and character-driven storytelling, The Elder Scrolls has established itself as a standard-bearer for immersive franchises within the RPG genre.
The aforementioned map was shared on Reddit by a user who goes by the name Bengamey_974. It provides an overview of all the areas that players can explore within The Elder Scrolls Online. The map is accompanied by a helpful legend that categorizes the provinces marked on the map based on their appearance in the game's various installments. The provinces that are available to explore in ESO are marked in green, while those that appeared in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, are marked in yellow. Finally, provinces that haven't been seen since the game's very first installment, Arena, are marked in brown. This categorization can help players quickly understand which regions are available to explore in the current game, and which ones may be added in future updates or DLCs.
This map also includes locations that will be available in the upcoming DLC Necrom. In Necrom, the map is limited to the Telvanni Peninsula, home to large mushrooms, rocky landscapes, and Necrom city. Necrom will be the 30th DLC released for The Elder Scrolls, the most recent being Scribes of Fate, which was released March 13, 2023. DLC like Lost Depths is located on High Isle off the northern coast of Summerset, while Blackwood is set in the southern region of Blackwood, between the Cyrodilic city of Leyawiin and the Black Marsh city of Gideon.
Several locations that were previously featured in The Elder Scrolls franchise, such as Cyrodiil and Morrowind, are largely explorable in ESO. Other locations, like Summerset, The Rift, and Reaper's March, are fully accessible to players. However, some areas of Hammerfell, Cyrodiil Skyrim, Morrowind, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh have certain sections that are closed off to players.
Based on the map, a significant portion of Cyrodiil, located between the southwest region outside the Imperial City and the Gold Coast, is marked in yellow, indicating that this area is only available in The Elder Scrolls 3, 4, and 5. Another region between Northern and Southern Elsweyr is marked in brown, which suggests that this area is only available in The Elder Scrolls: Arena. Similarly, the southern region of Hammerfell, as well as the eastern coast of Black Marsh, are also inaccessible to players. Despite these restrictions, the game still offers an expansive world for players to explore.
The Elder Scrolls Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
