Stealing has always been a core mechanic in most RPGs, allowing players to take what they need — or just what they want — from unsuspecting NPCs. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, players will often find themselves swiping armor, weapons, or simple items during their adventures, either for personal use or profit.

Tried pickpocketing NPCs to level your Sneak in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered? Here’s how to level it up quickly and easily.

However, since stealing is a crime in the game, guards can catch players in the act, forcing them to pay a fine or serve jail time while also confiscating any stolen goods. That’s why learning how to remove the stolen flag becomes crucial. This guide offers information on how players can remove the stolen tag in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

If you are on PC, you can simply target the stolen item and type the "SetOwnership" console command to remove the Stolen Flag.

How To Remove Stolen Flags in Oblivion Remastered

Removing Stolen Flags through Fences in Oblivion Remastered

The first method involves gaining access to a fence. To do this, you must first complete the Thieves' Guild quest in order to join them. There is a chance you might get approached by a Mysterious Dark Elf who will give you a note telling you where to go in order to gain wealth and face less jail time. In case this hasn’t happened to you yet, make your way to the Imperial City Waterfront, where you will find a poster of the Gray Fox. Talk to Puny Ancus, a beggar nearby, and ask him about the Gray Fox. To get some information from him, you might need to increase his Disposition level. A few bribes should do the trick.

Afterward, head up the stairs to the right of the poster and turn left to reach a corner where you must wait for midnight. At midnight, you can find Armand Christophe, who you will have to bribe and persuade. Having a Disposition level above 60 should allow you to talk about the Gray Fox and take the test to enter the Thieves' Guild. Complete the test where you have to steal an item from Amantius Allectus' House, east of Imperial City, Temple District. Once you have successfully joined the Thieves' Guild, you will gain access to fences who can buy stolen goods from you.

To sell stolen items, make your way to Bruma and head south of the town, where you can find Ongar’s House. Ongar is a fence and, as you are now a member of the Thieves' Guild, he will buy stolen items from you. Simply sell any stolen item that you want to have the flag removed from, and then buy it back from him.

You will have to pay a little extra, but it is worth it if you want to carry the item around without worrying about guards confiscating it.

Removing Stolen Flags through Enchantment in Oblivion Remastered

The second method involves enchanting the stolen item, making it lose the Stolen Flag upon completing the Enchantment process. First, you must make your way to Frostcrag Spire, located to the east of Bruma, way up in the mountains. If you have heard rumors about it in Bruma, then it will be marked on your map, allowing you to navigate there much more easily.

Upon reaching the mountain, head inside Frostcrag Spire Main Level, and you will find the Altar of Enchanting at the far end. To activate this, however, you will need Magetallow Candles, which you can purchase from Aurelinwae inside the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City Market District. You can also purchase items for your Frostcrag Spire, allowing you to create a Living Quarter there and a few more things.

Once you have acquired the Magetallow Candles, head back to the Altar and activate it. Here, you will get the option to choose a piece of your gear or weapon and enchant it with different effects. Once you are done with the effects, finalize the enchantment, which will create a new item that does not have the Stolen Tag.
