When you pick up certain items and loot containers, Oblivion Remastered often generates effects, stats, and contents on interaction. Because of the way the game handles randomization, it's possible to exploit Oblivion Remastered to get the items and effects you want, including Sigil Stone effects.

Oblivion Remastered: Best Alteration Spells, Ranked

In Oblivion Remastered, the best Alteration spells improve your ability to explore and bolster your defenses with shields.

When you get to the top of an Oblivion tower, the intended outcome is for you to get a Sigil Stone with a random effect, then leave, accepting whichever Sigil Stone effect you got. But if you follow these steps to exploit Sigil Stone generation, Oblivion Remastered can be manipulated to eventually provide whichever effect you need, not whichever happens to be created.

How To Get Specific Sigil Stones In Oblivion Remastered

When you pick up the Sigil Stone at the end of an Oblivion gate, it will be added to your inventory with a random effect taken from a large list of possible Defensive and Offensive enchantments. Normally, you would wait until the Oblivion gate closes after picking it up and accept whatever effect the Sigil Stone came with.

However, because the Sigil Stone effect is randomized each time you pick it up, it's possible to manipulate this random generation to get the Sigil Stone you want.

To fish for the effect you want and quickly farm for the best Sigil Stones, Oblivion Remastered players should follow these steps:

  • Make a quicksave when you reach the end of the Oblivion gate, preferably right in front of the Sigil Stone.
    • PC: Press F5 to quicksave, and press F9 to quickload.
    • Console: navigate to the Options menu and select "quicksave". You can also load your quicksave from this screen.
  • Remove the Sigil Stone, then wait for the pop-up to confirm that it has been added to your inventory.
  • Before the Oblivion gate closes, open your inventory and tab over to the Misc section. Scroll down until you see the Sigil Stone.
  • Open up the more details panel while highlighting the Sigil Stone, then open up the second tab of the pop-up details pane that displays effects.
  • If the effect on the Sigil Stone isn't one that you want, exit the menu and reload your quicksave.

When your game loads in, go up to the Sigil Stone again, remove it, then check which effects were generated. Each time you remove the Sigil Stone, the game will re-roll its effects. Because the effects are generated each time you interact with the Sigil Stone, not per save, you can load your quicksave repeatedly to get a specific Sigil Stone in Oblivion Remastered.

Alternatively, Install The Sigil Stone Selector Mod

There is an alternative way to get specific Sigil Stones in Oblivion Remastered: using mods. Exclusive to PC players, the Sigil Stone Selector mod for Oblivion Remastered removes the need to use this Sigil Stone exploit as it offers you a choice between every Sigil Stone effect in the game.

You won't lose access to achievements if you mod Oblivion Remastered, so if you want to cut out the faff and skip the Sigil Stone exploit, consider installing this mod instead.
