The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most anticipated games in the past few years, ever since Bethesda officially announced it in 2018. The teaser video didn’t show much about the game’s story or where it will be set. Each Elder Scrolls game has a unique theme, with some shared elements, like the recurring problem of Deadras messing with mortals. Elder Scrolls Online recently showed a novel idea about these immortal deities in its latest DLC, Gold Road, and it would fit perfectly in The Elder Scrolls 6.
Fans have been grasping at straws for any official news about The Elder Scrolls 6 beyond its 2018 announcement video. To get their fix for Elder Scrolls lore and gameplay, they either go through multiple replays of Skyrim, or turn to the franchise’s MMO title, The Elder Scrolls Online, whose Second Era-set story is part of the canon. The Gold Road DLC is expected to expand on the franchise’s lore significantly with the introduction of a never-before-seen Daedra. The Elder Scrolls 6 would benefit from pulling off the same strategy.
Why The Elder Scrolls 6 Could Benefit From Introducing a New Daedric Prince
Daedric Princes have been well-documented throughout the Elder Scrolls lore since they regularly meddle in the affairs of the people of Tamriel and commit atrocities out of ambition or mere amusement. Some of the most popular and famous include:
- Mehrunes Dagon: Also known as the Daedric Prince of Darkness and Destruction, this immortal being is the big bad who is responsible for the Oblivion Crisis. This event was spurred by the assassination of Tamriel’s emperor, causing the gates of Oblivion to open. It brought widespread death and devastation across the continent at the hands of Daedric creatures and Mehrunes Dagon’s avatar.
- Hermaeus Mora: This Daedric Prince’s realm is a massive library filled with books that range from general information to forbidden knowledge. He will stop at nothing to acquire new knowledge, including killing and torturing mortals.
- Azura: She is one of the few Daedric Princes who are considered “good,” even by those who don’t worship her. Her realm covers magic, mystery, and prophecy. Azura is seen by the Khajit as their creator and her followers are encouraged to show love to themselves and others. However, she isn’t below commanding them to kill people who have offended her.
The New Daedric Prince Ithelia Breathes New Life Into The Elder Scrolls Lore
Elder Scrolls Online will introduce a Daedric Prince who has been seemingly forgotten by the scribes of Tamriel’s history: Ithelia. According to ESO Gold Road lore so far, Ithelia is known as the Daedric Prince of Paths or the Fate-Changer. This heavily hints that she’s somehow able to mold or change destinies. Daedric Princes will always be fascinating to build a story around because they’re literally larger than life. They’re from another reality, so they can’t be truly killed, only banished. However, this also means that they have limited influence over Mundus, the planet Tamriel is on, so they rely on their human followers to do their bidding or summon them.
Each Prince has a unique personality and objectives that often put them at odds with other Princes. Such conflicts often lead to the gods’ followers attacking each other or committing atrocities that change Tamriel for the worse. Moreover, each species in the continent has differing interpretations of the Daedric Princes’ intentions and origins, which adds to the depth of the franchise’s lore. Therefore, introducing a new — or long-forgotten — Prince would be nothing short of a boon for The Elder Scrolls 6’s story.
