Oblivion Remastered puts players in a vast world and gives them all the time they need to explore it without any restrictions. As soon as you finish the tutorial level and exit the sewers of the imperial city, you’ll be thrust into the world face-first and will need to figure out what paths to take for yourself.

The flip side of this arrangement is that there are a lot of mechanics that the game doesn’t bother explaining to you, with one of them being time and day-night cycles. Certain quests within the game are time-sensitive, in the sense that they can only be triggered at certain times. On the other hand, there are some things that players can only accomplish at specific times. Waiting for time to pass normally can take quite a while, so having the ability to change it to suit your needs can be quite useful. For those looking to make use of such an ability, here's how to change the time in Oblivion Remastered.

Can You Change the Time in Oblivion Remastered?

Can you change the time in oblivion remastered (1)

Yes, you absolutely can change the time in Oblivion Remastered. The game doesn’t restrict you from a nice quality of life feature that was available in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim as well, and the feature works quite similarly, too. However, there are a few instances where players won't be able to accurately change the in-game time.

There are multiple reasons you might want to change the time in the game. Some quests need specific timing to work properly, shops take three days to restock and only open at specific times, and Heaven Stones can only be activated at night, though you’ll also need to meet the specific Heaven Stone’s Renown requirement.

How to Pass the Time in Oblivion Remastered

There are four different ways to pass the time in Oblivion Remastered, though some are more consistent than others:

  • Wait: To wait, simply press T (default key for PC) anywhere in the game. As long as there are no enemies nearby, a menu will pop up, giving you the option to choose how long you want to wait. Simply check the current time and wait for the appropriate number of hours to reach your desired time.
  • Sleep: Interacting with a bed or bedroll will give the player the option to sleep for a specific duration, passing the time in the process. There are two places you can sleep in the game: Inns and NPC camps. Camps will contain bedrolls and are free, while Inns cost 20 gold per night and can be found in cities and villages. The benefit of sleeping in Oblivion Remastered is that it will let you level up, heal ailments, and restore all your health, stamina, and magicka.
  • Fast Travel: Interestingly, utilizing the Fast Travel feature will also pass the time. The longer the distance you travel, the more time will pass.
  • Console Commands: You can use the console commandsettimescaleto [#]” to increase or decrease the rate at which time passes in the world.

Players have reported that the wait feature doesn’t work properly during certain quests, such as the Paranoia Quest in Skingrad or the start of the Thieves Guild questline. This is a bug that normally occurs when an NPC is attempting to talk to you at a certain time. To resolve it, you should talk to the relevant NPC.
