There is a lot of interactivity between NPC behavior and the world in Oblivion Remastered, like how NPCs will sit down and start eating food at a table, or from their inventory, if it is available. One way players can take advantage of this is by using Poisoned Apples to kill NPCs without ever laying a finger on them, avoiding all suspicion and Bounty.
Oblivion Remastered: How To Get Skooma
To get more Skooma, Oblivion Remastered players can look for this illegal substance out in the world or find a Skooma vendor.
In Oblivion Remastered, Poisoned Apples are relatively hard to come by, and the mechanics to use Poisoned Apples are a little convoluted. This guide explains what Poisoned Apples do, how to use Poisoned Apples to kill NPCs, and where you can find Poisoned Apple locations in Oblivion Remastered.
Poisoned Apple Effects
If you eat a Poisoned Apple in Oblivion Remastered, or successfully get an NPC to eat one, it will inflict the Deadly Poison effect. This debuff deals about 10 Health every second and bypasses all Poison Resistance, such as the Redguard racial passive Poison Resist buff.
The effect of a Poison Apple is different than other Poison effects in the game, though. When consumed, the Poisoned Apple effect essentially adds a permanent 10 Health drain effect. You cannot use any potions or spells to rid yourself of this debuff – if you eat a Poisoned Apple, you're doomed.
Interestingly, if an NPC eats a Poisoned Apple (and you didn't get caught pickpocketing it onto their person), their death will not garner any suspicion, even if they die right in front of a Guard. This is useful for certain Dark Brotherhood contracts, such as the infamous "Whodunit?" Murder mystery quest.
How To Use Poisoned Apple
There are two ways to use a Poisoned Apple in Oblivion Remastered: by reverse pickpocketing it onto an unsuspecting NPC, or by placing it on a table and hoping an NPC will sit down and pick it up for a snack. Either way, you must ensure that there are no other Food items in the NPC's inventory or lying nearby.
-
To reverse pickpocket a Poisoned Apple into an NPC's inventory, you must Sneak up behind them, open up the Search menu in the character's menu, then scroll through your own inventory until you find the Poisoned Apple.
- Click this to place it in the NPC's pockets. The next time they go to eat something, they will pull out the Poisoned Apple.
- Be sure to take any other Food items in their inventory so that the Poisoned Apple is their only option.
-
To use a Poisoned Apple without pickpocketing, drop the Poisoned Apple from your inventory, then hold down the Interact input to pick it up and drag it onto a table where you know an NPC will sit.
- Pay attention to NPC pathing and schedules to figure out where your target likes to sit down.
- Remove every other Food item from the nearby area, and your target will have no choice but to pick it up and snack on it.

Where To Find Poisoned Apples
There are two locations where players can find Poisoned Apple locations in Oblivion Remastered: in a locked barrel in Fort Farragut inside Lucien Lachance's lair, or in the trader inventory of M'raaj Dar in the Cheydinhal Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.
-
Fort Farragut is found just northeast of Cheydinhal. Follow the Dark Brotherhood questline until you are instructed to find Lucien Lachance here, which will let you access his lair within.
- On the right side of the room as you enter, look for a barrel that is locked with a Very Hard difficulty lock.
- Open this barrel to find 10x Poisoned Apples, which respawn every three days.
-
Talk to M'raaj Dar, the Khajiit trader in the Cheydinhal Sanctuary, to find that he sells 5x Poisoned Apples amongst his various wares.
- These cost a lot of Gold, but will restock like any other trader inventory.
- You can improve your Disposition with M'raaj Dar by completing Dark Brotherhood quests to get better prices.
You can also find a single Poisoned Apple in a chest in the Bravil Wizard's Grotto, and Lachance will provide one upon picking up "The Purification" quest. But because each of these sources are only a single Poisoned Apple, and do not respawn, it's more reliable to use the crate in Lachance's lair or purchase Poisoned Apples from M'raaj Dar instead.
