There are a handful of new changes, and a bunch of updated features, in Oblivion Remastered, and one of the things that was significantly altered is the leveling experience. Oblivion leveling used to be quite slow, and was restricted to your Major Skill development in the original game.
Oblivion Remastered: Which Race Should You Pick?
All Races in Oblivion Remastered have strengths and weaknesses, but the best Oblivion Remastered races offer powerful benefits for specific builds.
In Oblivion Remastered, though, you gain more XP for raising high-level Skills and Major Skills, but you also can increase your level faster by increasing Minor Skills. This guide explains the mechanics that allow you to level quickly in Oblivion Remastered, and briefly describes the best leveling methods Oblivion Remastered players can use to level up fast.
Focus On Leveling Major Skills
Improving Major & High-Level Skills Grants More XP
In Oblivion Remastered, leveling fast can be accomplished mainly by improving your Major Skills. Your Major Skills are the seven Skills associated with your chosen Class, while all others are considered Minor Skills.
Raising Major Skills grants significantly more XP towards character level than Minor Skills. Additionally, because high-level Skills are harder to improve and require more effort to raise, they grant more level XP when increased.
To level fast in Oblivion Remastered, focus on raising your Major Skills, especially your highest-level Major Skills, but don't completely ignore your other high-level Minor Skills.
Train With Skill Trainers, If You Have The Gold
Training Skills Is One Of The Fastest Ways To Level In Oblivion
Throughout Cyrodiil, players will find numerous Skill trainers, at least one for each Skill, who can train you at different level brackets (Novice, Adept, Expert, Master) in exchange for Gold. If you outlevel a Skill trainer, they cannot train you.
It can cost a lot of Gold to train skills, especially to train high-level Skills and Major Skills. However, if you have a lot of Gold to spare, you can pick and choose which Skills you want to improve to match your build, and will gain level XP every time you train. You can only train five times each level, which is tracked across all trainers.
Jump, Run, & Sprint As Often As Possible
Raise Athletics & Acrobatics To Get More Level XP
Leveling in Oblivion Remastered is a bit different from how it was in the original game. In the original version of Oblivion, leveling your Minor Skills didn't contribute to your overall character level, and your Attribute choices came from Skills you developed in that level bracket.
Oblivion Remastered: Where To Store Items
There are a handful of storage containers players can use to store items in Oblivion Remastered, including storage chests within an owned home.
In Oblivion Remastered, when you raise Minor Skills, you will get a small amount of XP towards your level. Because of this small change, you do not need to choose Athletics or Acrobatics as Major Skills to gain level XP when improving these skills.
Instead, to level up fast in Oblivion Remastered, simply keep Run enabled and Sprint when you have the stamina to raise Athletics passively, and Jump whenever you are travelling to raise your Acrobatics passively.
If you do not have Alchemy as a Major Skill, you can raise this skill incredibly fast by combining ingredients gathered throughout the world to make random potions and poisons. If you are right on the cusp of leveling up, check your Alchemy tab, click on your Mortar and Pestle, and make a few consumables to push yourself over the edge.
Wait To Read Skill Books Until Later Levels
Free Skill Improvements At High Levels Will Grant More XP
A staple of the Elder Scrolls series are Skill Books, books which players can find that will improve a Skill when read. You will not know whether a book will grant a Skill Point when read just by looking at it, so be sure to reference a list of all Skill Books in Oblivion before you start tearing through the local Mage's Guild bookshelves.
These Skill Points can only be gained once, so it's a bit of a waste to read them at early levels when raising Skills is relatively easy. At mid to late levels, it can take a long time to raise your level quickly in Oblivion Remastered as more XP is required to increase Skills.
Wait until around level 20 to 25 before you start reading Skill Books to gain levels. You will save time raising your high-level Skills, and gain the same amount of XP towards your character level as if you had trained or increased the Skill naturally.
