8 Practical Arsenal

A Subtle Touch-Up To All Weapons

First up is the Practical Arsenal mods by HugAMuffin, which isn’t just a single mod, but rather a series of mods that each cover one of the familiar Elder Scrolls weapon classes.

The Practical Arsenal mods aim to replace the vanilla weapons with slightly edited versions that are a bit more realistic and aesthetically pleasing, while also staying lore-friendly. Currently, each Practical Arsenal mod is divided up by class of weapons, such as Steel, Silver, Daedric, etc. They can either be downloaded selectively or altogether, and overall, they’re a great bunch of mods that make subtle tweaks to the look of the weapons, without changing the original designs.

7 Normal Longsword

Simple, Yet Effective

RPGs are commonly full of fantastic and crazy weaponry to buy, craft, or discover. Having the most unrealistically powerful weapon is awesome and all, but sometimes all players need is the basics.

That's where the mod Normal Longsword by BlueTwoDriver comes into play, and it probably needs no explanation. Just a normal, no-muss, no-fuss longsword complete with a shiny new model and textures. Indeed, it’s nothing special, but when it comes down to it, any longsword will chop through that Highwayman trying to steal your gold all the same.

6 Ancient Katana

A Beautifully Detailed Japanese Sword

From the common steel blades to the jagged etchings of Daedric warhammers, Oblivion has always had some cool and unique weapon designs. But the Blade’s selection of unique Akaviri swords has to be some of the most iconic in the series.

The Blades are the Emperor's elite bodyguards serving the Emperor in Oblivion Remastered. Here's how to join them.

The new Ancient Katana mod by AlexScorpion somehow takes the already awesome design of Akaviri Katanas and brings it to a whole new level. The mod adds a new unique weapon with an amazing-looking custom mesh and textures, complete with detailed etchings on both the blade and handle. The new weapon can be bought at Jensine’s "Good As New Merchandise" in the Imperial Market, but don’t expect her to let it go for a cheap price.

5 Sword Of Aeons

For All The Fable Fans Awaiting Its Next Entry

It’s no secret that fans of the series have been longing for a new Fable entry for well over a decade now, and have been hopeful for its new reboot.

While series fans will still have to wait until 2026 for the next installment, CosmicBoogaloo has got them covered with their new Sword of Aeons mod. Adding the evil Jack Of Blades’ legendary titular sword to the Elder Scrolls universe as its unique weapon in both one and two-handed variants. Interestingly enough, while the two games share significantly different art styles, the new sword fits perfectly with Oblivion’s more realistic design.

The new unique sword comes complete with a custom model and textures, and while it might stick out a bit when walking around the province of Cyrodiil, it fits the theme of the Oblivion realm quite well. So, fans of DmC will feel right at home romping around each plane of Oblivion, hacking and slashing the various demonic Daedric creatures while on their quest to close each gate.

3 Zireael - Ciri's Sword

The Iconic Gwyhyr Blade

Much like the Elder Scrolls series, The Witcher games are another one of the most critically acclaimed RPG lineups in the industry.

Naturally, anybody familiar with The Witcher 3 will of course recognize the sword from this mod, Ciri’s unique gwyhyr sword named Zireael. The precious blade forged from dark iron has been brought into Oblivion with Zireael - Ciri's Sword by dajost32, again, featuring a sharp-looking custom model and textures that fit quite nicely with Oblivion’s many other weapons.

2 Blood Drinker Battleaxe

A Lore-Friendly, Daedric Alternative

The tiers of weaponry seen across Oblivion’s province of Cyrodiil range from the lower levels of iron to the upper levels of ebony. But by far the most powerful (and iconic) is Daedric, a class of weapon coming from the otherworldly realm that sits at the top of the weapon tier list.

The lineup of Daedric weaponry is already cool as it is, but the mod Blood Drinker BattleAxe by unseelium somehow manages to top it. While it may not technically be a Daedric weapon itself, it shares a similar theme with the black and red design of its custom mesh and textures. The new Battleaxe can be found in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, and conveniently, also pairs well with a set of the Brotherhood’s shrouded armor.

1 The Master Sword

The Fate Of Cyrodiil Rests With You

The Legend of Zelda and The Elder Scrolls together don't exactly sound like a crossover we’d ever officially see, but luckily for fans of both series, there is an unofficial mod option available.

The Master Sword, created by Shad0wrend, is yet another mod that adds Link’s legendary Master Sword as a new, unique melee option. Its more cartoonish design may not fit with the realistic style of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, but hey, when would anybody ever get to say they ran around an Elder Scrolls game, slaying monsters with Link’s trademark, quintessential sword?
