Cyrodiil is larger than ever in Oblivion Remastered, which is why players are going to need to get the best horse they can if they are to travel the great capital of Tamriel and immerse themselves in the countless adventures to be found within. The best horse in Oblivion Remastered can be ranked rather easily, as some horses aren’t worth purchasing, and others are straight up murderous.

There are quite a few horses that players can get in Oblivion Remastered, so listed below is a ranking of each of them so players know which ones to buy, which ones to turn into glue, and which ones are worth just leaving alone and ignoring to get the best possible horse in the game.

8 Unicorn

A Mythical Creature That Will Always Attack On Sight

Unicorn
  • How to Get: Stolen from Harcane Grove, a location north of Bravil

Speed

Health

The Unicorn is a beautiful creature, and really one of its kind as it frolics in a field protected by minotaurs. While the Unicorn is beautiful, its speed is exceptional, and its stat resistances are elite, the Unicorn is a burden to obtain because once mounted, it becomes the primary horse. This is not a good thing in the slightest, as while its stats are incredible, it is extremely hostile to anyone wielding a weapon. This means that NPCs and even the player will be attacked on sight by the Unicorn, which makes it a rather useless mount to have if it’s going to attempt to kill the rider and everyone in the area.

7 Paint Horse

The Cheapest Starter Horse

Paint Horse
  • How to Get: Purchased for 500 Gold from Petrine at Wildeye Stables in Bruma, or Cat-Face at Five Riders Stables in Leyawiin.

Speed

Attack

Health

28

10

300

The Paint Horse shouldn’t be used as a central horse for the entire game simply because its stats are inferior to those of the other horses. With more health, but less speed, which is arguably the more important stat, players are going to have a horse that they can trust and rely on, but one that could be better. The Paint Horse is decent for its small price of 500 Gold, but it’s not going to make them zoom through Cyrodiil like other choices will.

6 Bay Horse

An Average Horse That’s Relatively Cheap

Bay Horse
  • How to Get: Purchased for 1,000 Gold from Isabeau Bienne at Bay Roan Stables in Bravil, or Ugak gra-Mogakh at Grateful Pass Stables in Skingrad.

Speed

Attack

Health

31

When players acquire their first 1,000 Gold, it might be a good idea to grab the Bay Horse. This isn’t a lot of Gold to ask for, and the horse itself is fairly decent, providing players with a steed that is capable of further sprints, and even has moderate health that goes above more expensive options. However, the Bay Horse is just a tad slower, and while it’s not that noticeable, players are going to want the fastest horse in Oblivion Remastered, which isn’t this one.

5 Armored Old Nag

An Ugly Horse That’s Completely Free and Armored

Old Nag
  • How to Get: Purchased from Snak gra-Bura at the Chestnut Handy Stables, Imperial City, if players inquire about horse armor and do not have a horse

Speed

Attack

Health

28

5

250

While Old Nag has the same, pretty poor stats as the other horses, it does benefit from the fact that it’s free. If players have yet to acquire a horse or do not have a primary steed, then they can get the Old Hag for free from Snak gra-Bura. Sure, it’s not got the most glamorous of names, nor the most glamorous of looks, it’s nearly identical to the previous horses listed.

4 Chestnut Horse

A Fast Horse For a Cheaper Price

Chestnut Horse
  • How to Get: Purchased for 2,500 Gold from Bongond in the North Country Stables, Chorrol

Speed

Attack

Health

34

10

200

The Chestnut Horse is part of the main trio of horses with the White Horse and Black Horse, and while this one does have pretty good speed to keep up with the White Horse, it does lack the health that might make this horse a bit too liable to defeat in battle. However, the Chestnut Horse is half the price of the Black Horse, so for those with not a lot of Gold, this might be a wise purchase.

3 White Horse

The Most Resilient Horse with a Beautiful Coat

White Horse
  • How to Get: Purchased for 4,000 Gold at the Horse Whisperer Stables from Clesa in Anvil

Speed

Attack

Health

34

12

400

The White Horse has a majestic coat for players to admire as they ride this steed into battle and around Cyrodiil. The main properties to note with the White Horse are that it’s a tad cheaper than the Black Horse, and with that comes a slight reduction in speed. However, the White Horse makes up for it with its chunkier health stats, ensuring that players aren’t going to have to drag their horse’s corpse around to make their money back after this one falls in battle.

2 Black Horse

Top Speed for an Expensive Horse

Black Horse
  • How to Get: Spend 5,000 Gold at Tovas Selvani in the Black Waterside Stables, Cheydinhal

Speed

Attack

Health

38

15

325

The Black Horse is the best horse in Oblivion Remastered for those who want to spend their money and not indulge in the Dark Brotherhood’s murderous quests. While the Black Horse is inferior to the top choice, it’s still the best horse that players can purchase with their money, thanks to its incredible speed and decent attack, but it doesn’t have the best health of the horses.

1 Shadowmere

An Evil Horse With Top Speed and Immortality

Shadowmere in Oblivion Remastered
  • How to Get: Rewarded to Dark Brotherhood players after completing The Purification quest

Speed

Attack

Health

38

20

500

Faithful Shadowmere is a beautiful horse, one that haunts the player with its red eyes and black coat, but also one that enthralls with its amazing stats. Shadowmere is the best horse in Oblivion Remastered that players will want to get, and it helps that this can be achieved simply by engaging in Oblivion Remastered’s best questline with the Dark Brotherhood faction. Shadowmere has great speed and health, and as an essential character, this horse will fall unconscious instead of dying in battle.
