An Elden Ring player had a pretty nasty surprise when they were killed by a Lesser Mad Pumpkin Head that performed a riposte on their character and headbutted them on the ground twice. Elden Ring was originally released back in 2022, and it quickly became a big hit. Elden Ring sold over 20 million copies, and part of why the title is so successful is due to its sprawling world filled with mysteries. Not only does Elden Ring have several secrets hidden in its nooks and crannies, but some enemies have some pretty unique interactions that the majority of the players never see.

Elden Ring Player Lets Themselves Be One-Shot on Purpose in PvP

An Elden Ring player intentionally debuffs themselves in the game to become a one-shot target, resulting in a hilarious video that they posted online.

Now, a player called MidnightLess882 has shared a video in which a Lesser Mad Pumpkin Head defeats them in a unique way. In the 14-second clip, it’s possible to see the Elden Ring player riding a horse and attacking the enemy from behind. They land the first hit but are caught off-guard when the Pumpkin Head uses something that resembles a riposte to knock them off the horse. As if that was not bad enough, the combo continues, with the enemy hitting the player twice with headbutts while they lay on the ground. The whole sequence does enough damage to kill the main character before they can even react. The Lesser Mad Pumpkin Head is a common version of Elden Ring’s Mad Pumpkin Head boss, and it attacks with similar patterns. Normally, the usual behavior of the enemy is to attack the player with their weapon, using their headbutts when the player gets really close.

MidnightLess882’s post obtained over 1,800 upvotes on r/EldenRing, becoming very popular with the community. In the comments, most players confirmed that they never saw this exact interaction, while others explained that they believe this riposte combo is possible when some select enemies knock a mounted player off the horse. Mounted combat in Elden Ring may have its advantages, but this seems to be one of its setbacks.

It’s not uncommon for gamers to uncover significant details about Elden Ring after playing for hundreds of hours. A few months ago, for example, an Elden Ring player discovered a new enemy interaction after playing for over 800 hours. The gamer was fighting a Giant Land Octopus and a Great Wyrm Theodorix at the same time, and eventually, the two enemies began to fight each other, which was a pretty rare event.
