In a new post on the Elden Ring subreddit, user RollNo4253 highlights an interesting sequence in the recently released Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC story trailer. In the first few seconds of the trailer, right when a woman, who is presumed to be Queen Marika the Eternal, grabs a few golden strands and bends them into a rune, players can see a golden sky in the background. While this might look innocuous at first, it might actually have a link to the Elden Beast.
The Arena Isn't The Only Thing Similar To The Elden Beast Sequence
If players look closely into the sky, it closely resembles the one in the arena where the Elden Beast fight takes place. While that might sound a bit far-fetched at first and many fans called it a case of classic Soulsborne apophenia, the music playing in the background all but confirms the speculation. As highlighted by Redditor j7bach, the music in the sequence is an altered version of the one playing during the Elden Beast boss fight.
As far as the essence of the exact sequence is concerned, just like a lot of Soulsborne lore, it is anybody's guess. It is a well-established fact that the Elden Beast is the true form of the Elden Ring, so it could be possible that this was the event that led to the binding of the Elden Beast with the Elden Ring. Another interesting thing to note is that there is a roar in the background as well when Marika's hair is blown away with the wind from the portal, which many believe could also be the birth of Maliketh.
This, in fact, resonates quite well with the narration during the clip, which states "an affair from which Gold arose, and so too was Shadow born." Whether these speculations are correct or not is something only time will tell. That being said, it could be possible that fans will never get the answer to this mystery, something which is a common occurrence for several Elden Ring and Soulsborne secrets.
