Death Rite Birds are field bosses in Elden Ring that appear at different locations throughout the game. They drop a decent amount of runes and usually give the players an additional unique item on top of that.

Players can go up against a new Death Rite Bird in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC as well, and the fight is as tough as ever. The attacks of the bird are hard to avoid, deal a lot of damage, and can cause frostbite if you're not careful. However, players can make short work of the foe with the right strategy.

Where To Find Death Rite Bird In Shadow Of The Erdtree

Where to find Death Rite Bird, Map Location in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree-1

The Death Rite Bird is located in Charo's Hidden Grave, with routes shown in the image above, right past the Charo's Hidden Grave site of grace in the cemetery with other bird statue enemies as backup. It will spawn in once you cross a certain threshold in the area, appearing in a blaze of blue flames.

You can take some time getting rid of the minor enemies before spawning the boss to make the fight easier on yourself. Fewer total enemies equals fewer annoying pests to deal with, letting you focus entirely on the actual boss.

During the fight, the Death Rite Bird can bring additional bird statues to life (though it's inconsistent), so be wary of additional enemies showing up during the fight.

How To Beat Death Rite Bird In The Elden Ring DLC

How to Beat Death Rite Bird in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Death Rite Bird isn't the toughest boss in the DLC, not by a long shot, but killing it can still be a bit difficult for anyone not familiar with the moveset. It can close the distance quickly, and the ghostflames that it uses deal a lot of damage, lingering on the ground for a while.

Dead Rite Bird Moveset

Death Rite Bird Moveset in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Basic Attacks: When the player is close to the bird, it will fly up and swing its staff or perform a wide sweeping attack. It might also rear its head back and peck at the player, which can initiate a devastating grab attack animation. These attacks can easily be avoided by rolling into the attack, giving players the opportunity to punish the enemy afterward.
  • Ghostflame Ignition Skill (Normal Attack): The boss will ignite a ghostflame and sweep its weapon, creating a wave of blue fire in a single line. It will only do this when the player is further away. The attack can be avoided by running to the side — or dodging sideways at the appropriate time.
  • Ghostflame Ignition Skill (Strong Attack): The boss will ignite a ghostflame and slam its staff into it, causing an explosion. Players can strafe behind the enemy, or create some distance once they see the flame ignite to avoid the attack.
  • Explosive Ghostflame : The death rite bird will charge up its staff and slam it into the ground, creating a fairly large explosion. Players can run away and punish the attack using ranged weapons, spells, or ranged consumables.
  • Ghostflame Feather Barrage: The bird will flare its wings and release a host of ghostflame feathers that will chase down the player, staggering them on each hit, eating away the HP at a very fast pace. Run sideways or summon Torrent and sprint to the side to avoid the attack.

Effective Strategy Against Death Rite Bird

Cheese Strategy for Death Rite Bird in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

If you just want to get rid of this enemy without investing too much time, here's what you need to do:

  • Get any long-range weapon or spell that you can equip and deal a lot of damage with. Anything with the Holy attribute is much more powerful against this enemy, but any high-damage weapon will work fine.
  • Summon a tanky Spirit Ash that can take a beating before initiating the fight.
  • Get rid of the straggling birds around the arena before initiating the boss fight.
  • Get in a couple of hits while the boss is spawning, and then retreat, letting your summon pull aggro.

The Death Rite Bird is immune to all status effects other than Scarlet Rot. It is strong against Lightning and Pierce damage, and it is weak against Holy and Strike damage.

  • Spam your weapon or spell, keeping an eye around you to make sure no enemies approach you.
  • Be prepared to summon Torrent to run away or dodge any sudden attacks from the boss.

A good option for a long-range weapon is the Bolt of Gransax, a Lightning weapon that has an Ash of War with insane range. The Sacred Relic Blade is good as well because of its Holy attribute, and any Holy spell that works at a long range is a great choice.

Death Rite Bird Boss Rewards In The Elden Ring DLC

Boss Reward for Death Rite Bird in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Death Rite Bird in Charo's Hidden Grave drops 230,000 runes when the player defeats it. Additionally, players get the incredibly powerful Ash of War: Ghostflame Call. Using this on the proper weapon can help players create a build around causing Frostbite, an overlooked status effect in the game.
