The Smithscript Greathammer is perhaps the only viable throwing weapon out of all the ones introduced in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The others aren't necessarily unusable, but they certainly don't have the best damage output, leaving much to be desired when dealing with tougher enemies.

The Smithscript Greathammer has the highest damage out of the bunch, and its damage fall-off isn't too bad when thrown. With an optimized build, players can use it to go through the DLC without too much trouble. The fact that it can be infused helps quite a lot with its overall damage.

If you're looking to maximize the amount of damage you can deal with each singular attack, the Smithscript Greathammer should be infused with a Magic, Sacred, or Flame infusion. These have the highest total damage, and change the scaling of the greathammer, reducing the STR dependency and making it scale better with either INT or FAI. If you want to use sorceries alongside this weapon, the magic infusion will optimize your stat spread.

However, the Sacred and Flame infusions will optimize your stats so you can more easily use incantations. Since the DLC has a much better selection of incantations compared to sorceries, this might be the best overall option. Since many enemies in the DLC are resistant to Holy, you'll get the best damage when you have the Flame infusion. You can also use a Poison, Blood, or Cold infusion to give the greathammer the ability to cause the corresponding debuffs.

Since you can infuse the weapon with your preferred element, the exact stat spread will change depending on how you want to use the greathammer. Spread your stat points according to the scaling of the weapon with your preferred infusion.

Put as many points as you can spare in Vigor, with the minimum being 40.
Don't worry about Mind unless you're multiclassing as a mage, and put around 20–30 points in Endurance. The exact number depends on what armor you want to wear.
Your primary stat should be the one with the highest scaling after infusion. For a flame and sacred infusion, you'll want to prioritize FAI, raising it up to 60. For a magic infusion, prioritize INT.
