Exploration in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a little bit different from the base game in curious ways. The game is still open-world, but there is now more backtracking and interconnectivity to the previous regions via shortcuts and loops.

Scadutree Fragment s and Revered Spirit Ash es have replaced Golden Seed s and Sacred Tear s as valuable collectibles in the overworld. To help players transition and learn the new mechanics in the DLC, notes and tutorials explaining how these things work have been added to the game. One of these notes refers to sealed spiritsprings, a phenomenon players may be unfamiliar with.

Miyazaki promise of 'as big as Limgrave' turned out to be just as big of an understatement as suspected and players couldn't be happier. To keep things fresh, there are some unique exploration challenges players are now expected to solve in order to progress. This includes sealed spiritsprings.

How to Unlock Sealed Spiritsprings in Shadow of the Erdtree

Players will be able to talk to Moore, an NPC merchant, at the Main Gate Cross Site of Grace, next to the Miquella's Cross and Scadutree Fragment. While Moore doesn't have much to offer in terms of goods, one particular item may catch your interest—' Note: Sealed Spiritsprings' on sale for 1,000 Runes. The note says:

"Should you chance upon a sealed spiritspring, look for stacked stones nearby. By toppling them, you may break the seal."

Spiritsprings are gusts of wind players can use to super jump across vast vertical distances when riding Torrent. These are the same upward drafts you use to jump from the Gatefront Ruins to Stormhill in the base game.

In Shadow of the Erdtree, some—not all—spiritsprings are nonfunctional. These spiritsprings are easily identifiable by a ghostly image of stacked rocks surrounded by weak wisps of weeeeeeind. The spiritspring's wind is blocked, and to unseal it, players will have to find and topple the stacked rocks. The sealing stones are always found somewhere nearby. They are usually easy to locate as they're rarely well hidden and are surrounded by a glowing white runic circle. They can be knocked over by attacking with any weapon. Once destroyed, a message will appear saying, 'Somewhere, a spiritspring has been unsealed.'

After being unlocked, the spiritspring's location should be immediately obvious, as they're always close to the rocks, and the giant draft of wind is easy to spot if you're looking for it.

Spiritspring seals may be hidden behind fake walls, bushes, up a ladder, or even indoors. Finding one may require unlocking a shortcut before being able to access it.

In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, there are only four known spiritpsrings that need to be unsealed. Here are their locations.

Gravesite Plains Sealed Spiritpsring

North of the Ruined Forge Lava Intake is a large mountain pass underneath the cliffs. Pass through it and head northeast to find a sealed spiritspring next to the cliff wall. This leads to Behind the Fort of Reprimand Site of Grace and serves as a shortcut for reaching Scadu Altus without beating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight.

Ancient Ruins of Rauh Base Sealed Spiritpsring

Just south of the Rauh Ruins Map Fragment is a sealed spiritpsring leading to the Northern Nameless Mausoleum. The sealing stones are on a cliff just west of the seal.

Directly north of the Rauh Ancient Ruins, West Site of Grace is a small pond with a sealed spiritspring. The seal for this is on the cliff to the west. The only way to reach it is by using the elevator in the ruins to the west to reach the cliffside.

Rabbath's Rise Sealed Spiritspring

West of the Church District Highroad is the Rabbath's Rise Tower with a sealed spiritpsring in the middle. The seal is behind a hidden wall inside the tower.
