After entering the Realm of Shadow, players will come across
Freyja, who carries with her a Greatsword. After completing her quest, players can acquire the weapon and try out builds for it. This is one of the weapons acquired at the end of the DLC playthrough, so players will have to start an NG+ playthrough if they want to defeat all the bosses with it.
Freyja's Greatsword comes with a Spinning Slash weapon skill, but this can be changed, especially for better Redmane Skills. This guide includes the details on obtaining
Freyja's Greatsword and how players can build it in Shadow of the Erdtree.

How To Obtain The Freyja's Greatsword Build In Shadow Of The Erdtree
Freyja's Greatsword is linked to Redmane Freyja herself, and players can obtain the weapon in two ways. The first way involves you giving her Freyja's Letter. She will provide you with the
Golden Lion Shield and move from here to Enir-Ilim. You can fight her in the fight against Leda and her allies, and after the fight is over, loot her corpse to obtain the Greatsword. The second method is if you are not progressing through her questline. For this, you will have to proceed in the DLC until you fight Leda and her allies and return to the Storehouse, Seventh Floor in Shadow Keep, where the Greatsword should be lying where Freyja is located.
Freyja's Greatsword Build Stats & Scaling
Scales Primarily With Strength
The following are the stat requirements, as well as the scaling on a fully upgraded Freyja's Greatsword:
|
Attribute |
Level |
Scaling (Max) |
|---|---|---|
|
Strength |
25 |
A |
|
Dexterity |
14 |
- |
The requirements for Freyja's Greatsword are pretty low, and given that you have to complete a good chunk of the base game before entering the Realm of Shadow, you will have enough level. The Standard path does have scaling with Dexterity, but you will be using the
Ash of War: Savage Lion's Claw, which applies the Heavy Affinity. The reason for choosing this Ash of War is because this is a Redmane skill, and the weapon has a passive, which increases the damage of these skills.
There are other options, like the Flaming Strike and Flame of the Redmanes, for which you can opt for a Fire Affinity path. Sticking with the Savage Lion's Claw with Heavy Affinity will give you an A scaling with Strength. Freyja's Greatsword can be upgraded to +25 using Smithing Stones and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
Best Talismans To Pair With Freyja's Greatsword Build
The talismans for this build are pretty different in that they focus on all attacks of the weapon itself. For example, the Shard of Alexander is present to increase the damage of the
Ash of War: Savage Lion's Claw. Meanwhile, the Claw Talisman is useful when performing jumping attacks with the Greatsword. The Two-Handed Sword Talisman is necessary because you will always two-hand the weapon. These talismans allow you to approach a boss or an online enemy with different attacks, all of which are enhanced.

To obtain this Talisman, you must find a chest located in a room in Temple Town Ruins. This Talisman increases attacks with two-handed attacks by 15%. |

|
|
To obtain this Talisman, you must open a chest near a waterfall east of Rivermouth Cave. This Talisman raises stamina recovery. |
Best Armor To Pair With Freyja's Greatsword Build
As Freyja's Armor does not have any passive effects boosting the damage of either the Redmane Skills or the weapon itself, the best option is the
Rakshasa Set. Every Armor piece of the Rakshasa Set increases your damage by 2%, totaling 8%. However, it also increases the damage you take by the same percentage. The damage boost is worth more than the negative effect, which can be lowered through Talismans and Crystal Tears.

Best Character Attribute Distribution For Freyja's Greatsword Build
For the level distribution, it would be best to raise your Vigor to 60 and raise your Strength as much as possible. As the weapon only scales from Strength, you only need 14 Dexterity to use the weapon and ignore Intelligence and Arcane. Faith should be no more than 25 because you need that much to cast Golden Vow. You can balance Mind and Endurance, but leaning towards one of them depends on whether or not you will be using the Ash of War more often or not.
You can not Respec in the Realm of Shadow and must travel to the
Raya Lucaria Academy to beat
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, who becomes an NPC. She can Respec in exchange for a Larval Tear. These Larval Tears are rare, but more have been added in the DLC.
The following table lists the Attribute Distribution for a 200-level character:

Best Wondrous Flask Of Physick Combination For Freyja's Greatsword Build
Wondrous Flask has several Crystal Tears options, some of which have been added to the game through the DLC. The Greenburst Crystal Tear increases stamina recovery, which is essential for this build, as using the Ash of War and charged heavy attacks consumes a lot of Stamina. Regaining the Stamina can take time, so this is where this Crystal Tear and the Two-Headed Turtle Talisman are useful. For the second slot, you can go for a defensive Tear. Opaline Hardtear should do the trick as it increases your damage negation, but you can also go for the Leaden Hardtear, which increases Poise.

|---|---|
|
Obtained upon killing Putrid Avatar in Caelid. This tear increases stamina recovery by 15 per second for 3 minutes. |

Elden Ring: Bows Tier List
FromSoftware games have never had great ranged combat, but Elden Ring changes that, with a great selection of bows suited for a range of builds.
Best Incantations To Pair With Freyja's Greatsword Build
Freyja's Greatsword only boosts the damage of Redmane Skills and not any Sorceries or Incantations. As the armor does not have any passive effect about Spells, it is best to only have Supportive Incantations with you that you can cast before fights. The Golden Vow and the Flame, Grant me Strength, can be stacked and increase damage and damage negation for a short duration.
|
Incantation |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Found on a corpse in the Corpse-Stench Shack on Mt. Gelmir. This Incantation increases your damage output by 15% and negates all damage by 10%. The buff lasts for 80 seconds. |
|
|
Found behind Fort Gael, guarded by two flame chariots. This Incantation boosts your physical and fire damage output by 20%, and the buff lasts for 30 seconds. |
Best Great Rune To Pair With Freyja's Greatsword Build
Most of the time, Great Runes depends on the personal preference of the player. As the build is a bit weak on the defensive side, you can go for the Great Runes that increase your health, such as Radahn's Great Rune, which increases HP, FP, and Stamina. If you do not need FP and Stamina, you can opt for Morgott's Great Rune, which provides a whopping 25% increase in maximum HP.
|
Reat Rune |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Obtained upon defeating Morgott, the Omen King. This Great Rune greatly increases your maximum HP. |
|
|
Obtained upon defeating Starscourge Radahn. This Great Rune boosts your maximum HP, FP, and Stamina. |
Freyja's Greatsword Build Buffing Routine & Attack Strategy
Before entering a boss fight, you need to make sure you cast buff to enhance your damage:
- Consume the Wondrous Flask to increase Stamina Regeneration and increase the damage negation.
- Apply the Golden Vow incantation to boost damage output and negate damage to self.
- Apply Flame, Grant Me Strength incantation to increase damage output.
As the fight begins, you must get close to the boss/enemy and hit them with either your Ash of War or charged heavy attack. One attack should be enough, as going for multiple hits can lead to the boss interrupting your attack and taking your entire health boss. Multiple Ash of War hits to the enemy should stagger them, allowing you to perform a critical hit on them.
